G1 – 1100m – Turf
| Kallos | Wasn’t overly fancied when came from well back in the field to down Asfoora by 1L at latest start. Has a good second-up record and is capable of producing another win with a big finish. |
| Asfoora | Classy mare who was a little disappointing when beaten in her first-up run the G2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) when she didn’t finish off as expected after starting odds-on. Will be improved and can make amends here. Is a specialist at the track and distance. |
| Skew Wiff | All wins have been at 1200m and 1400m. Hampered at the start at most recent run in November when wasn’t far off the winner in G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m). Usually takes a run to show up, so prefer to watch. |
| Sghirripa | The last start G3 Standish Handicap (1200m) winner was an impressive 1000m trial winner in his lead up to this. A Listed Christmas Stakes (1100m) winner at Caulfield in December. Is primed to produce his best and attracts plenty of interest after winning his past four of five runs. |
| Chain Of Lightning | Hasn’t won for around 16 months and has struggled to repeat the form when she won three of first four races for the Moody stable. Jockey reported the mare went amiss in her last start in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) in November. Goes well fresh and likes Caulfield, but this is hard. |
| Najem Suhail | Former South African galloper who has risen through the grades nicely since arriving in Australia. Has finished second in past two runs, both in Listed events at Caulfield, but will need to show more improvement to topple the top fancies. |
| Recommendation | Honest galloper who is never far away. Ran well at latest start last month, finishing third in the G2 Australia Stakes (1200m). This race has plenty of class and he’ll need to reach another level to win but will race handy. |
| Benedetta | Has only been out of top three spots once in 10 starts with six wins. Is well weighted and is sure to pose a threat at some stage in the run. Finished a respectable fourth in her last run in the Silver Eagle (1300m) in October when had little luck. Goes well fresh. |
| Brudenell | Faces his biggest test after winning in much lower grade races. Would need to find a couple of lengths quickly to justify being in the firing line against some tougher opposition. Won his last start fresh and has a good second-up record. |
| Hypothetical | Hasn’t been beaten far in her past seven races, but is yet to nail a big win. Likes to get to the front and while she’ll give a good sight, others have more claims at this stage. |
| Lempicka | Another outsider who strung together three wins in a row, including the Listed Alinghi Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield in October. Is first-up for this and has won four from five attempts while fresh. Rough place chance in a quality field. |
| Mornington Glory | Has performed well for new stable. Was only beaten 2.05L after wide run in the Rubiton Stakes. But it’s difficult to see him challenging the more fancied runners and is best suited to something much easier. |
| Queman | Last start winner of the Listed W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m), but this assignment is up another level or two. Hard to get enthused with his chances in a quality field, although he has won three from three from second-up runs. |
| Rey Magnerio | Lightly raced and consistent galloper who has won six races and only missed a place once in nine runs. Yet to contest a high-level race but has all the makings of a top liner who is versatile and can get back and run-on or be handy. Last start Caulfield winner. |
| King’s Gambit | Exciting 3YO colt that comes in on the minimum of 110lbs. Hasn’t been out of the money in his six starts. Is a winner at his only start at this track and is expected to race handy. Has had two trials leading into this and will take plenty of catching. |
