The Hong Kong Jockey Club bought five eye-catching colts at the recent New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale for a total outlay of NZ$1,470,000 (approx. HK$7,256,000).

The first to fall the Club’s way was Lot 329 for NZ$360,000. By Per Incanto, the youngster is a full brother to recent Sha Tin winner Baby Crystal, while as a sire, Per Incanto has shot the lights out with Duke Wai – an eight-time winner and the highest-rated among his progeny in Hong Kong having placed at Group 2 and 3 level this season.

The Club secured a second youngster by Per Incanto – Lot 423 – soon after for NZ$400,000. The colt is out of the six-time winning mare Petite En Jeu – a sister to New Zealand G3-winning mare La Fille En Jeu.

Lot 585 is an attractive son of El Roca who sold for NZ$130,000. El Roca has 18 wins in Hong Kong from eight individual runners overall, including the dual Group 2-winning Lucky Patch. The youngster hails from the same family as Catbird – Australia’s Champion Two-Year-Old through 1998/99.

Lot 605 fell the Club’s way for NZ$130,000. The colt is by Darci Brahma, a reliable source of winners globally, while his star progeny in Hong Kong has been the G1-winning D B Pin, BMW Hong Kong Derby-winning Sky Darci and Group 2-winning Amazing Star.

The Club’s highest-priced purchase was Lot 621 for NZ$450,000. By Deep Field – sire of last Sunday’s (29 January) Hong Kong Classic Mile winner Voyage Bubble – this colt boasts a global pedigree including Aidan O’Brien’s globetrotting star Highland Reel.
