17/01/2023 15:09

The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased a quintet of well-bred colts at the recent 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in Australia for a combined outlay of AU$2,875,000 (approx. HK$15,152,000).

The Club commenced buying with Lot 134 for AU$600,000. The attractive bay colt is by Pierro, sire of 2019 BMW Hong Kong Derby and Hong Kong Classic Mile winner Furore, as well as Rewarding Together – a two-time winner this season in Class 2 who was narrowly defeated last start at Group 3 level in the Bauhinia Sprint Trophy.

Lot 208 was the second to fall the Club’s way. The handsome youngster is by Zoustar – best known in Hong Kong as the sire of Hong Kong Classic Cup and Group 3-winning Healthy Happy. All winners this season – Quadruple Double, Stunning Impact, Faribault, Chiu Chow Brother and Solar Winds are also among Zoustar’s progeny.

The colt’s out of the mare Our Crown Mistress, a tough on-pacer who scored five wins from 11 starts during her racing career including twice at Listed Stakes level at Flemington and Doomben. Lot 208 was purchased for AU$650,000.

Lot 251 is a strong and athletic son of Smart Missile – sire of Fat Turtle, Cheerful Days and Invincible Missile among many others in Hong Kong – who was secured for AU$275,000 and is out of the mare Porcellanus, making him a half-brother to current Tony Cruz-trainee Copartner Ambition – a three-time winner in Hong Kong.

Capitalist is making waves in Hong Kong and the Club was pleased to carry off with Lot 352 – an eye-catching son of the 2016 Golden Slipper winner for AU$500,000.

Capitalist has only had four individual runners in Hong Kong and each of them have returned a win in either their first or second starts in the city, namely, Superb Capitalist, Chilli Baba, Capital Legend and Savvy Chic.

Lot 472 was the Club’s highest-priced purchase for AU$850,000. The well-bred colt is by Toronado, sire of Lucky Express, Senor Toba and smart 2023 Four-Year-Old Classic Series prospect Sweet Encounter – who has already collected four wins from six starts through this season.

An attractive son of Toronado, the bay colt is out of the mare Tereka – who is a half-sister to the five-time Hong Kong winning Magic Legend. This is her first foal.
