G1 – 1598m – Turf

Aikhal Must be respected because of the trainer’s strong record in this G1. Not seen yet this year, but two solid efforts at G3 and G1 level to close down last season. Slow ground would help.
Angel Bleu Closed down 2021 with two terrific French G1 victories – both coming on testing ground, his preferred surface. Raced too freely when third in a G3 at Newbury on his 2022 return.
Bayside Boy Never managed to get into the action from a wide gate in a G1 Longchamp Classic over this trip on his first start of 2022. This looks too challenging.
Berkshire Shadow A Royal Ascot winner at two, and, though some disappointments followed, he did run well as a long odds outsider in Newmarket’s 2000 Guineas, keeping on in fifth. Still, this looks hard.
Checkandchallenge Came into the picture for the 2000 Guineas when finishing strongly to win a Listed event at Newcastle. But never managed to figure on his turf debut, in the Newmarket Classic itself.
Coroebus Could be even better suited to this than at Newmarket where he was an impressive winner of the 2000 Guineas, using well-planned waiting tactics then surging past rivals. Big chance.
Light Infantry Unbeaten in two starts last year, including when showing a good finishing kick in a Newbury G3. Made some late headway in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on his return but much more needed here.
Lusail Very speedy, twice winning 1200m G2’s last year. However, he appears to stay 1600m, judging by his sixth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket when he didn’t have a perfect trip.
Maljoom Unbeaten in three starts – all this year – and appearing to make rapid improvement each time especially when overcoming a slow start and responding to strong driving to win a 1600m G2 at Cologne in May.
Mighty Ulysses Reportedly works like a Group horse at home, no doubt he represents his top stable here even though his last start was a narrow defeat in a handicap, at Haydock last month.
My Prospero Very strong at the finish when winning a Listed event over a similar trip to this at Sandown last month. This handsome-looking and improving colt could easily make a big impact, now in a G1.
New Energy Briefly looked like landing a shock Classic victory in a G1 at The Curragh last month, finishing a good second of nine. Clearly worth his place in G1 company, though a win here seems unlikely.
Wexford Native From the stable that won this last year. This guy doesn’t have such a good profile though his fourth in the Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh last time indicated continued improvement.
