1400m – Dirt

Almeida Minoru

Switched repeatedly from dirt to turf, with last two starts bringing 5-3 over dirt 1400m at this class, the latter at Tokyo. Decent speed. Has chance here.

Bakushin

Miho-based colt has posted two 3rds (one over Tokyo 1400m) in 5 starts at this level, three at this distance. Had two wins over Tokyo 1400m in 2020 and should be competitive here.

Derma Kamikaze

7-year-old raced primarily over 1200m has best a 2nd in seven starts at this class. Returned after 4 months to post fourth last out in mid April. Had some good performances at Tokyo early in career.

Jungle King

Consistent colt switched to dirt and has posted 4-1 since, both starts at this distance. Moving up in class after win at Tokyo in mid February. Good speed. Promising.

Mitsukane Prince

Has posted 3-6-10 in last three starts at this level, all over Tokyo 1400m. Best results came when he broke smartly.  Worth a wager to fill out trio.

Morito Yubu

7-year-old has best an 8th from last 6 starts since moving to this level. Has lost edge from early last year with times likely not competitive among this field.

Peisha Lil Kiss

Has best a sixth in six starts since moving up to this level. Often slow away and doesn’t make move until too late. Should do better.

Precioso

Ritto-based 5-year-old moved from mid-distance dirt to turf sprints early last year with decent results (one 2nd and seven 3rd-places finishes, including at Tokyo). Being given first dirt race in 10 starts and nearly 15 months. Could surprise with return to dirt.

Prudens

Miho-based colt looked to have remedied gate problems but last out after 4.5-month break and in first start at this level, missed break again. Posted 3-1 over Tokyo 1400m in last October. Distance, venue suit. Break will be key.

Respectable

7-year-old had reached this level in early 2019, but failing to see success turned to jumps and then was not raced for 2 years. Returned in February for a 9-7 over the Hanshin 1400m. Good late speed despite late break both times. Only second time at Tokyo. Could surprise.

Sanono Kuhio

Raced primarily over 1200m with some success, being given first start at this distance after poor showing in last two starts after moving to this level. Speed may be lacking in this field.

Shisei Taiga

Raced solely on turf, being given first start on dirt. Initially performed well over turf 1200m after rising in class, but last 8 starts have brought best a fifth. Wild card.

Sueno Blanco

Miho-based mare has been inconsistent since moving to this class. Posted 10-8-6 in three starts this year at distances of 1200-1700m. Could make money with right trip but not promising.

Tagano Peca

Filly showed promise after a third upon moving to this level, but last three starts have brought poor results. Has potential though. Not to be totally written off.

Yaugau

5-year-old raced primarily at this distance had early success and last 16 starts have been at this level with 4 thirds. Worth a wager to fill out a trio, but playing a longshot.

Zenno Michizane

Colt returned to JRA after NAR performances on dirt showed promise. Moving up in class after posting 4-2-1 this year, all over 1400m. First time at Tokyo, but has done well at left-handed Chukyo. Decent speed.
