The Hong Kong Jockey Club has bought eight attractive colts out of Books 1 and 2 at the recent Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for a total outlay of 2,285,000 guineas (approx. HK$25.707 million).
The Club’s top-priced purchase was Lot 114 for 475,000 guineas, an athletic bay colt by No Nay Never, whose third dam – Leukippids, produced Blazing Speed, a four-time top-level winner in Hong Kong and Champion Stayer of the 2015/16 season.
The youngster’s dam – Laganore, was a G1-winning star on the track, claiming the 2017 Premio Lydia Tesio in Italy among her seven career-wins. This is her second foal to date while the first is yet to race.
Kingman sits joint-third on this season’s standings for sires in Hong Kong and the Club was pleased to pick-up one of his progeny, Lot 617 – a bay colt for 300,000 guineas.
The striking youngster has ties to Harzand – H H Aga Khan IV’s top-class three-year-old and winner of the 2016 Epsom and Irish Derby double, while the juvenile’s dam is Hunaina, who showed tremendous quality to win six times across her career, ranging from 1200m to 1600m in Great Britain, Ireland and once at G3 level in France.
The Club went to 350,000 guineas for Lot 1099, a smooth walking colt by four-time G1 winner, Ribchester. The colt is a half-brother to Andreas Vesalius, a one-time winner who placed at G3 level last start at The Curragh in July.
Book 1 yielded five purchases in total for the Club. Lot 58 is a Zoustar colt out of the two-time winning mare, Herecomesthesun; Lot 271 is a colt by Dark Angel out of the mare Silk Bow, who has had one other foal to race – Wings Of A Dove, a five-time placegetter; Lot 355 is a bay colt by Acclamation, while Lot 430 is a son of Oasis Dream, sire of six-time G1 winner Midday and the classy Muhaarar.
Book 2 returned three purchases for the Club, with Lot 762 – a youngster by Invincible Spirit – being secured.
