The Hong Kong Jockey Club returned to the Keeneland September Yearling Sale for the first time in nine years, walking away with one attractive colt for total outlay of US$200,000 (approx. HK$1.557 million).
Keeneland graduates are no stranger to success in Hong Kong, two heroes of yesteryear both went through the famed ring in Kentucky’s Bluegrass region, Good Ba Ba and Electronic Unicorn, and the Club was pleased to secure Hip 1087, a dark bay or brown colt by Medaglia d’Oro, sire of US champions Rachel Alexandra and Songbird, as well as none other than Hong Kong’s own, reigning Horse of the Year, Golden Sixty.
This yearling is out of the mare Habiboo who has had seven foals to race for six winners, including, Bellera, winner of the G3 Comely Stakes (1800m, dirt) at Aqueduct and Life Imitates Art, winner of the G3 Dania Beach Stakes (1500m) at Gulfstream Park. The youngster, much like Hong Kong’s Champion Sprinter, Hot King Prawn, shares Unbridled’s Song as their dam sire.
