The Season Opening race meeting will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 5 September.

The Season Opening race meeting will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 5 September.

In view of the stabilising COVID-19 pandemic situation in Hong Kong – unlike last year’s Season Opening race meeting which had no public attendance – the Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) is delighted to be able to welcome thousands of public members to enjoy the exciting races at Sunday’s Season Opener, which also features the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup (Class 1 – 1200m).

The new season will be ushered in with the traditional gong-striking opening ceremony taking place in the Parade Ring at 12:00 noon, after a lion dance performance, when Champion Jockey Joao Moreira leads all jockeys in attendance to wish fans the very best for the new racing season.

The Season Opening meeting is the first of 88 racedays scheduled for the 2021/22 season, a term which will be highlighted by LONGINES Hong Kong International Raceday, the BMW Hong Kong Derby and FWD Champions Day.

There will be 12 Group 1 contests in total, leaving Hong Kong’s world-class jockeys and trainers to vie for supremacy in the world’s most competitive racing jurisdictions.

Overall, there will be $1.46 billion in prize money on offer across more than 830 races in a season which is again expected to deliver an endless stream of unforgettable moments.

To usher in the new season, a mega prize totalling $70 million is up for grabs across the first two race meetings, split evenly between the two meetings.  Booking of all venues has been available to Priority Card holders and members of the public. Only customers who have made an advance booking will be admitted. Each racegoer will receive one complimentary 2021/22 Racing Calendar* for free as a door gift upon admission.
