G1 – 1600m – Turf
1 |
Clouds Unfold |
Brilliant mare, who has won nine of 19 starts, including five Group-race victories. She will be going for her third successive win in this race and comes in as the best-weighted runner. Could prove hard to beat again. |
2 |
Silvano’s Pride |
Consistent mare who has won six races and placed another four times in her 19 starts but generally battles in this class of field. Looks well held by Clouds Unfold on a number of runs but could run into the placings. |
3 |
Pretty Young Thing |
A nice filly who always gives backers a run for their money but looks outclassed this time. Is better over shorter but did run well when third in a G1 over 1600m in Durban but this will be a lot trickier. Place chance. |
4 |
Sing Out Loud |
She is unbeaten in both starts over this distance, but in weaker company. Was a respectable 5th in the G1 Paddock Stakes over 1800m and has a top jockey but will need to find more to have a say in the outcome. |
5 |
Kelpie |
Looked useful early in her three-year-old career but has not been able to rise to the expected heights. Did run a 1.6L fourth in last year’s race but there is little in her recent form that gives her much chance in this event. |
6 |
Third Runway |
Ran a great race in last season’s G1 Cape Fillies Guineas when finishing third from a terrible draw. Unfortunately, she has not repeated that level of form and could be out of her depth in this event. |
7 |
Indi Anna |
Returned to form when winning the G3 Flamboyant Stakes over 1600m at Greyville in Durban but in much weaker company. Loves this distance but is likely to find herself a little outclassed in this company. |
8 |
Helen’s Ideal |
Another mare who looked promising early in her career when she won a couple of Listed races, but has only won a single race since then. Would need lots of things to go her way to even run a place. |
9 |
Icon Princess |
There is not much form that would encourage a bettor in this company. She has failed in her only run over the distance and looks well held by runners like Indi Anna. She has to be considered an optimistic entry. |
10 |
Captain’s Ransom |
Top-class three-year-old who comes off a facile win in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas. She beat Clouds Unfold by 0.3L in the Diana Stakes but is 11lb worse off. Improving fast and is a massive contender. |
11 |
Chat Ching |
The only other three-year-old in the line-up and although well above average, was beaten 3.75L by Captain’s Ransom in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas. Ran fourth in the G1 Paddock Stakes and should place in this event. |
