1600m – Turf

American World

Won twice over 1600m and 1800m and placed 3 times from 12 starts. Raced primarily in 1800m-2000m range. Finished 7th last out when dropped to mile, best in five starts at this class. Good speed.  Return to Kyoto a plus but would carry 7lb more than last start.

Dragoon City

Has 8 races in top three from 14 career starts. Raced primarily at the mile. Ran 5th in his first start at this class two races back, before running a fine 2nd over Kyoto 1600m in April. Spelled for 6 months since. Races close to pace. Excellent speed. Likely popular pick.

Folktale

Has 2 wins, 1 second from 5 career starts. Won last out in Sapporo 1800m a class below in August. Tends to run close to pace. Tends to lug in. Tighter turns of Kyoto should suit. Will have weight advantage running under 117lb. Looking good in morning work. Prefers fast track.

Gilma

Has 8 starts in top three from 12 career starts. Unplaced in 3 starts, all over 1800m, since moving to this class. Chronically slow at break, but jockey suggests mile may suit. Good late speed. Has won on softer going.

Il Vento Dea

Has 2 wins from 5 starts. Won last two races, both over 1200m. Moving up in class. Excellent speed but finished off board in 3 prior starts in 1600m-1800m range. Difficult filly but has potential. First time at Kyoto but will carry 9lb less than field top weight. Mirco Demuro in saddle a plus.

Mikki Badeelah

Ran almost exclusively over mile.  Finished in top three in 9 of 10 career outings. Returned after two months off for win in Hanshin mile on 15 September. Moving up in class. Will be popular.

Mitono Maroon

Front-running colt moved up to this class last out, finished 8th after four months off. Hampered by slow pace, lacked stamina. Showing some improvement in work. One to watch.

Reticule

Has 2 wins, 2 seconds from 5 starts. Broke maiden over mile at Chukyo in 4th start, next out won over Kokura 1800m in August. Runs close to pace. Good late speed. Can handle any going. Experienced at Kyoto. Moving up in class for first time. Likely popular pick. Easily agitated. Keeping cool key.

Roquette

Ran 4th and 2nd, both over 1600m and in this class, in two recent starts. Second last out at left-handed Chukyo in July on good track. Runs close to pace. First time at Kyoto but has two wins at Hanshin. Looking good in work.

Schwarz Bomber

Won 2 and placed once from 13 starts. Has good late speed but failed to get results in recent starts. Had nice inside run to finish 2nd in Hanshin mile last out on 22 September. Will be carrying 5lb more this time. Not promising but could surprise.

Siberian Tiger

Has 5 wins and 1 second from 42 starts in both flat and jumps. Moved back to flat for 5 starts this year in 1600m-1800m range, all at this class. Best a 6th in Kyoto mile in January after year off. Finished 9th carrying 126lb at Nakayama last out on 16 September.

Thrash Metal

Finished 6th and 3rd, both over mile, since moving to this class two back. Last out 3rd at Hanshin on 22 September carried only 119lb. Has good late speed. Runs from far off pace or midfield. But has best a 7th carrying 126lb. Looking well-toned in work.

Vin De Garde

Ran 3rd in both the G3 Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes (1800m) last November and the G3 Mainichi Hai (1800m) in March. Massive drop in class last out to win over Hanshin mile on 7 September under Yuichi Fukunaga. Also 4th in the G3 Kisaragi Sho (1800m) here at Kyoto in February. Excellent speed. Can run from any position. Likely favourite.
