1800m – Dirt

Cannon Barows

Has 4 starts, 3 on dirt at this distance. Returned after 4-month layoff to finish 9th last out in Hanshin 1800m. May show improvement but lacks speed. Lacklustre in trackwork.

Hakusan Lilac

Has 1 win and 1 second from 8 starts. Best of 4 starts over this distance a far 5th last out at Hanshin in September. Carries only 110lb under apprentice Taisei Danno, who has 15 wins from 273 rides since debuting in March. Worth a wager.

King’s Cross

Has 1 win and 2 seconds from 15 starts.  Finished a 2nd and 4th for three times from last four starts. Was given 1800m for first time in a year last out and finished 2nd at Hanshin on 28 September. Distance likely suits with far-off-pace style. Good speed. Promising.

Kurino Apache

Moved back from NAR circuit to JRA in October 2018. Has best a 6th from mixed bag of distances and surfaces since.  Well beaten in all 6 starts over 1800m dirt, including 2 at Kyoto. Likely not a contender.

Maria Spun

Ran 2nd in career debut over the course and distance, before taking a Hanshin 1800m next start in December 2017.  Unplaced in 7 starts since, including the recent two over the distance. Returning after 4 months off. Likely not a contender.

Modus Operandi

Has 1 win from 4 starts. Moved to dirt from second start and won a NAR mile race at Funabashi. Finished 6th over Kokura 1700m in August and 4th last out over Hanshin 2000m. First time on Kyoto dirt. Decent speed but no kick. Could surprise with right trip. Trackwork sufficient.

Puerta del Sol

2 wins and 7 placings from 29 career starts. Finished three seconds and a third when raced exclusively over 1800m in 8 starts in 2019, including a 7L 2nd last out at Hanshin. Also 2nd and 3rd at the course and distance this year. Good speed and tactically versatile. Handles fast and good going. Promising.

Sunrise Acacia

Yet to win with 3 seconds and a third from 9 career starts.  Raced primarily over 1800m. Lacked luck when led but was pipped at the post for nose 2nd in a Kokura 1700m two races back.  Faded late when 6th in Hanshin 2000m last out. Return to distance a plus. Tactically versatile.  Handles all going.
