G1 – 1600m – Turf
Watch Me |
Confirmed herself a high grade filly when winning a key trial for this – a G3 over Maisons-Laffitte’s straight 1400m last month – settling well off a decent pace and gaining a narrow advantage over Suphala. Apparently easy to train and expected to stay 1600m. |
Imperial Charm |
Maintained the improvement of her two-year-old career when finishing second in a G3 over this course and distance last month – leading for much of the way and responding well to her rider’s urgings. Reportedly wants a slow surface to deliver her best. |
Commes |
A Deauville winner over this distance on her debut last August and she has run well in both subsequent starts – latterly when runner-up to a very well regarded filly – who misses this Pouliches – over this course and distance last month. From a stable with a strong record in this. |
Suphala |
No stamina worries, having twice won over this distance – at Chantilly – at two. Involved in a tense struggle with Watch Me in the closing stages of a key trial for this – over 1400m at Maisons-Laffitte last month – only losing out by a whisker. A fine effort. |
Silva |
Having won over further than this at Deauville as a two-year-old, she made a big impression when walloping her 14 rivals over this distance in Listed company on the Meydan dirt in January. However she appeared to bounce from that big effort with a poor G3 show there in February. |
Angel’s Hideaway |
Twice a winner, she is not very big but is tough and has thrived over the winter with two good 2019 efforts. Especially last time when she ran much better than her 33-1 odds when a close fourth in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last weekend. Fast ground is her ideal. |
East |
An interesting UK-trained contender, having won her first two starts last year latterly a 1400m G3 at Saint-Cloud – dropping out at one point in the race before surging to victory. Despite a bad trip, she ran through rivals to grab second in a G1 Breeders’ Cup event at Churchill Downs last November. |
Rocques |
Proven over this course and distance, winning a G3 on good ground last September. However she hasn’t really built on that in two starts since, most recently when making just a fair return in a G3 here last month, never able to make enough ground from the back. |
Castle Lady |
Wasn’t ready to race at two but reportedly thrived over the winter and, having won both starts this year, has been supplemented into this field. Most recently she quickened nicely off a slow pace to win a G3 over this course and distance. |
Coral Beach |
Had a busy two-year-old campaign but it took a long time for her to win, eventually managing it on her 11th start, adding a G3 Leopardstown win on her final 2018 outing. Her trainer says she likes to be hidden away before challenging and thinks this Longchamp test might suit her. |
Rainbow Heart |
Surged clear of her rivals to win a 1400m Newmarket novices’ event on her second and final two-year-old start. She raced too freely on her 2019 debut in a 1600m conditions race on the Kempton all-weather last month, running an encouraging third. Much more needed here, obviously. |
Matematica |
Very nearly plundered a G1 on just her second start when only grabbed on the line in a prestigious Fillies’ event over this course and distance last October. Back to maiden company for her 2019 return and – needless to say she was a red hot favourite – winning easily. A serious player. |
