G2 – 2410m – Turf

Crowned Eagle Has yet to win in Group class company though did run second in a G3 over this distance at Bro Park in Sweden last September. Couldn’t get into an early prominent position – tactics that suit – when a disappointing favourite in a Listed event on the all-weather at Kempton last November.
Old Persian A very interesting recruit to the Meydan scene having twice won at G2 level – at Royal Ascot and York – last year, latterly beating subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter. Has won off a break before and is very effective at this trip. Tends to be ridden prominently.
Second Summer Did win a G2 at Meydan in 2017 but that was over 1600m on a muddy dirt surface. However he has been beaten a long way on all subsequent starts and the move up in distance and switch to turf would have to make a big difference for him to have any winning chance.
Sharpalo Last win came on the dirt at Jebel Ali back in 2016 and has failed to win from 10 starts at Meydan. He has seemed to improve for the step up to this distance this year with three good efforts in handicaps, but some of his rivals would surely need to underperform for him to win.
Spotify Has not seen another horse in either Meydan start this year, leading from the gate each time, and clinging on for two narrow victories. The latest in a G3 over 2000m was surely a career best and this lightly-raced Godolphin horse could easily be capable of even better.
Racing History His three career wins all came over shorter than this. However his dam was a G1 winner over this distance and the way he was finishing when only failing by a short-head to catch Spotify in a 2000m G3 here last month suggests that this consistent horse could be suited by this longer journey.
Prince Of Arran UK trained but with an international profile, and won a 3200m handicap here last year, as well as a victory at Flemington prior to a terrific third (after looking likely to win) in the Melbourne Cup. Didn’t have enough speed to get into the late action over the 2400m of the LONGINES Hong Kong Vase last time. Wants an electric pace at this trip.
Desert Encounter Gained his first G1 victory on his latest start when coming from way off the pace to win at Woodbine last October. He had tried a G1 here at Meydan last March but the very slow gallop didn’t suit at all. Consistent, and, if fighting fit after the break, ratings give him a big chance.
Marinaresco Struggling to return to the form of his victory in South Africa’s prestigious Durban July over 2200m in 2017. Has lacked a finishing kick in both Meydan G2 starts this year but does move up significantly in trip here, and that may help.
Team Talk Has only raced nine times including two lengthy breaks. However he has been busy this year with three solid Meydan efforts. Being pushed early, he lacked enough pace in a 2000m G3 here last month but he was closing late on suggesting this longer trip may help even if his pedigree doesn’t shout it.
