G3 – 1600m – Dirt

Muntazah A big horse who needs to be kept active according to his trainer, and on his latest start, he was at the top of his game when today’s rider galvanised him into a powerful winning surge run in a G3 over this distance, with today’s rivals Secret Ambition, Heavy Metal and Kimbear amongst his victims.
Heavy Metal A popular eight-times Meydan winner, seven of which came at this trip including in this race two years ago. His powerful front-running style has often ground his opponents into early submission but he is not quite the force of old and had to fight for his early lead when third to Muntazah last time.
Ibn Malik Hasn’t managed a win since moving to Dubai but has run several good races this year, including late last month when third under topweight in a handicap over this distance. A solid effort considering he didn’t have the best of trips.
Good Curry A prolific winner in Turkey with his 15 wins coming over a wide variety of trips. Usual tactics are to lead but he couldn’t get to the front on his Meydan debut in a 1200m handicap here last month. He finished nicely to get fourth and that counts as a promising effort.
Axelrod On his Meydan debut, formerly trained in the USA where his latest start was a 5L fourth in a 1400m G1 at Santa Anita in December. Back in August he had defied a difficult start when accelerating to a 4L winning margin in a 1700m G3 at Parx. Clearly very talented.
Behavioral Bias Has shown some promise since moving from the USA to the UAE. He showed plenty of early dash in a G3 over this distance at Meydan last month but ran out of gas in the closing stages with the four horses who finished ahead of him all in opposition again here.
Moqarrab Lightly-raced but did manage two 1433m wins on an all-weather surface. Only beaten a short-head in a 1400m handicap on his Meydan debut, a really promising effort especially after having to challenge wide from the highest gate.
GM Hopkins Had a long career as a high class turf handicapper in the UK, frequently seen over Ascot’s straight 1600m where he won a top Royal Ascot handicap in 2015. He ran an encouraging fourth on his latest start but there must be doubts as to whether this belated switch to dirt will be helpful.
Rodaini Effective at this trip though his two Meydan wins have come over 1400m. The latest of those came last time where he sat close to the pace before showing good acceleration to lead 200m out and hold off Moqarrab. He meets that rival on better weight terms here though has a less favourable gate.
Secret Ambition A real enthusiast who has tasted plenty of Meydan success and outperformed expectations when second to today’s rival Kimbear in this G3 last year. Sometimes slow from the gate but usually gets back into the action as he did when second to today’s rival Muntazah in a G3 last month.
Kimbear (Withdrawn)
Musawaat Effective on this surface and at this trip and he ran a good third to today’s rivals Kimbear and Secret Ambition in this last year, staying on from off the speed. With his closing profile, his wide gate may not be so disadvantageous but this task still looks very hard for him and he is not as race-hardened as most rivals.
