G2 – 2800m – Turf

Elusive Silva One of four runners from the Justin Snaith yard and at his best would have a chance but he has been making a respiratory noise in his last two runs and has not been at his best.
Let It Rain Last year’s winner who has been sparingly raced and seems to be coming to form at the right time. Must be in with a shout.
Ovidio A winner of this race a few years back but he is now eight years old and seems to be past his best.
Strathdon He comes into this race very well handicapped and is the runner they all have to beat. He finished close up in both the G3 Cape Summer Stayers and the Chairman’s Cup and the weight turnaround is very much in his favour.
Gimme One Night He won both the Cape Summer Stayers over 2500m and the Chairman’s Cup over 3200m but is now 17 lb worse off with Strathdon and will be hard-pressed to retain his dominance. However, he is an improving young stayer and runs well for champion jockey Lyle Hewitson.
Ollivander Very disappointing and often flatters to deceive. Is well held on form by a number of runners and does not appear to have a winning chance.
Benjan Has done well since tried over further but he is not far off Gimme One Night on form and although he looks an unlikely winner, he could run a place.
Woodland’s Forest Is well held by both Gimme One Night and Benjan and looks outclassed.
Walter Smoothie A Johannesburg who ran well enough in his first start in Cape Town when fourth behind Gimme One Night in the Chairman’s Cup over 3200m. He will improve on that run and should be in contention at the finish.
Magnificent Seven An interesting runner who has only had one warm-up when unplaced behind Doublemint in the Peninsula Handicap. Will improve over this distance and has an outside chance, especially with Bernard Fayd’Herbe in the irons.
Pacific Chestnut Finished second behind Gimme One Night in the Chairman’s Cup but has it all to do at the weights if he is to beat Strathdon.
Ballad Of The Sea Held on form by quite a number of horses but he does stay and could place. In his favour is that he is still young and there could still be some improvement to come.
Dynasty’s Blossom Has been running in fillies’ company and takes a jump in class. Not even sure to see out the distance.
Cedar Man A three-year-old with a light weight so that could work in his favour and he also won his first start when tried over 2500m in a lowly handicap. Could be upset material.
