G1 – 1000m – Turf
Battaash | A brilliant sprinter who crushed his rivals by 4L and upwards in this dash – held at Chantilly- last year. Twice a G2 winner this year, the only disappointment being last time when hot favourite but only 4th in a York G1. His trainer thinks that track doesn’t suit him but thinks that Longchamp will. |
City Light | A closer who can miss the break but who should be suited to the expected frantic pace in this sprint. In great form this season only just failing to win a G1 at Royal Ascot, having earlier won a G3 over this course and distance. A fast finishing second from an unfavourably high draw here last time. |
Havana Grey | From a stable enjoying a lucrative season as is Havana Grey who comes here fresh from his first G1 victory when justifying favouritism at The Curragh, making most of the running in that 1000m dash. Chances if in that mood. Versatile groundwise. |
Lost Treasure | He has won three of his four starts this season – all since late August. That is a good strike rate especially as he needs to be delivered late as he tends to stop when he hits the front. However his wins have all come at a much lower level than this. |
Sioux Nation | Beat a big field when winning a 1000m G2 dash at Royal Ascot last year, following up in a G1 over 1200m at The Curragh. Some less exciting efforts followed though he wasn’t beaten far in a G1 at The Curragh last time, doing his best work at the finish. |
Declarationofpeace | He did win a valuable sprint in the US last November but he’s been soundly beaten in three of his four starts back in Europe since – finishing last on each occasion. There was one solid effort, when a late closing 4th in a G2 at The Curragh in July. |
Cox Bazar | Did win at Listed level over this trip at Deauville last year but his victory at Maisons-Laffitte last month – though easily gained – was at a much lower level. He will probably struggle against some of Europe’s top speedsters here. |
Gold Vibe | Formerly a very consistent sprinter – albeit with a better record of being placed than winning. However he has been disappointing of late though he did miss the break and met with traffic as he tried to go forward when 10th in a G3 dash here last month. |
Hit The Bid | Campaigned at Meydan earlier in the year when he won a handicap over this distance. A front-runner he showed good early speed again in a G1 at The Curragh last month but ran out of gas on the uphill finish there in slow ground, finishing 4th. |
Alpha Delphini | One of plenty of UK-trained sprinters who have chances of capturing this top French sprinting prize. He landed a 40-1 shock win on his latest start, holding on gamely in a G1 at York – with some of today’s rivals behind. Can handle any ground. |
Finsbury Square | A close 4th in this sprint two years ago, and 7th last year – both times run at Chantilly where he also won a soft-ground G2 sprint in June. The ground would probably need to come up soft for him to have a big chance here. |
Tantheem | Supplemented into this field after improving significantly on her last two starts. Most significantly she won a G3 trial for this over this course and distance last month. Awkward at the start but finishing powerfully with some of Sunday’s rivals struggling behind. |
Mabs Cross | Sometimes outpaced early on but a powerful finisher who is enjoying a terrific spell at the top level. Most recently she kept up with the early speed and only failed by a nose to win a G1 at York in August. Good or fast ground will be ideal. |
Different League | A Royal Ascot G3 winner over 1200m as a two-year-old. However she has failed to win on seven attempts this season and has been a beaten favourite four times. Despite coming from the in-form O’Brien stable it would be a big shock if she won. |
Antonella | A Spanish-trained filly who has run much better than her long odds might have suggested in two starts in France when 3rd at Deauville and when quite a close 4th in a G3 at Longchamp. She was prominent from the start that day. |
Soldier’s Call | A rare two-year-old runner in France’s most prestigious sprint. He’s won four of his six starts and beat a subsequent G3 winner when landing a G3 at Chantilly last month. And he’s followed up with a front-running G2 victory at Doncaster. Very fast. |
