G1 – 1400m – Turf

Ancient Spirit An interesting supplementary entry into this field after securing his second German G2 prize this year when leading from start to win over 1600m at Baden-Baden in August. Effective on good ground, and has also won over this shorter trip.
Burnt Sugar Having come fast and late to win two valuable UK handicaps – at Newmarket and Ascot – over this trip back in July, connections have decided on a bold challenge for this G1. He handles fast ground well but may be better on softer. Looks outclassed.
Coeur De Beaute His three career wins have all come on a slow surface, conditions not expected here. He has run decent races in G3’s on his last two starts and was keeping on well at the end when only 1.75 lengths 5th behind rival here Tornibush over this course and distance last month.
Dutch Connection Wins only sporadically these days but four of his five career successes have come at a Group race level. Ran one of his best races for some time most recently when a close 4th in a G2 at Doncaster over 1405m. Will need ground that is good or faster.
Geniale This Japanese-trained colt kicked off his French visit when winning a G3 over the straight 1600m at Maisons-Laffitte in July, finishing ahead of rivals Jimmy Two Times and Zalamea here. But this prominent racer was very disappointing here last month.
Gustav Klimt Has class on his side, and was a close 2nd in a G1 over 1594m at Royal Ascot in June. On unsuitably heavy ground he also ran a cracking race when a close 3rd in a 1200m G1 at Haydock last month. Talented and versatile with chances here.
Inns Of Court Showing plenty of zip this season in Group races over 1200m and 1400m. In a G3 over this course and distance last month – considered a trial for this – he made eye-catching late headway behind to finish a close 3rd of 11.
James Garfield Almost landed a G1 shock at Deauville in August when – prominent from the gates – he was only nailed close home by Polydream, a clear career highlight.  Heavy ground was probably the cause of a dismal show last time.
Jimmy Two Times Ran a respectable 4th in this race in 2016. Delivered two strong finishes to win a G3 and G2 last year – both over 1600m. He has run consistently well in some competitive contests this year including two places over this course and distance. Returns from a break.
Karar Led and then rallied bravely when headed, finishing a close third in this G1 – run at Chantilly – last year. However he has mostly not shown the same flair in six starts since and will need to raise his game against some strong opposition here.
One Master  The winner of three of his seven starts and very effective over this trip. Grabbed the prize close home in a G3 at Tipperary last time and should be primed for a good show especially with his stable still in hot form.
Polydream A champion two-year-old who was injured in the course of coming second in a 1600m G1 at Chantilly a year ago. Has recaptured her brilliance in her last two starts, latterly when thrusting late to win a G1 over 1300m at Deauville in August. No surprise if she starts favourite.
Sir Dancealot A busy and rewarding season has included a G3 win and two G2 victories, all at this distance, featuring some great come-from-behind performances under Gerald Mosse. Heavy ground and an inadequate 1200m may have caused a less good run last time.
So Beloved Very talented on his day but he has been beaten in his last 29 starts. However he has often gone close during that spell including when only 0.75L 2nd in this race (at Chantilly) last year. Quite well held on his last four starts.
Teppal A long absence and a huge class rise didn’t stop Teppal showing too much late pace for her opposition to win the G1 French 1000 Guineas over 1600m at Longchamp in May. No such fireworks in a subsequent Royal Ascot G1. She’s hard to assess.
Tornibush A progressive four-year-old in excellent form in 2018 who has won four of his five starts this year including a G3 trial for this event here at Longchamp last time. He was always prominent that day, and responded well to strong urgings from Olivier Peslier.
Zalamea A rare winner during a busy career and has started at very long odds when tackling company like this. Not at all disgraced when a close 4th in a G3 over this course and distance last month but it would be a surprise if he got into the placings here.
