4330m – Turf

1 Renneti An eight times winner who has run over a big variety of distances over a variety of different types of races. He’s from a legendary stable but he’s finished last in his latest two starts and may need easing ground to excel.
2 Fun Mac A regular in these long distance races at Royal Ascot and fifth in this last year. He ran really well when second in a prestigious handicap at Chester last time but ideally he would want some easing in the ground.
3 Nearly Caught A big and incredibly brave horse who finished first in a 3200m G2 at Hoppergarten, Germany, last time only to be demoted in controversial circumstances. Slow ground would be ideal but he handles fast conditions.
4 Fort Jefferson Has won his last three starts – over hurdles last month and two Flat handicaps this month at Nottingham and more recently when he made all the running at Haydock. Up sharply in distance and with alot to find on ratings but clearly in great form.
5 Guard Of Honour Has a low winning strike-rate and his rating suggests that he has a very difficult task here though he did run respectably in this race last year, beaten 9L sixth of 16 runners. Not disgraced in either start this season either.
6 L’attesa Modest over obstacles and he has never won on the Flat. It would be a huge shock if he managed to get into the money here.
7 Le Maitre Chat Beaten a long way in the shorter Ascot Stakes at this meeting in 2016. Also well beaten on his only start this season and very hard to fancy.
8 Pallasator Quirky and sometimes difficult at the start but talented. His last win on the Flat came back in 2016 when he landed a G3 at Sandown. He has won over hurdles this year and if he stays this trip he has the class to make an impact.
9 Pearl Dragon The longest trip he has tried is 4100m in a G1 at Chantilly last season, fading out but it was still a respectable effort in the context of this race. However he probably needs soft ground to have any chance here.
10 Tempestatefloresco Yet to race on the Flat but he shouldn’t be completely ignored as he comes from a top jumping stable and has won over some extreme distances suggesting that this trip is not a problem. He also has some fast ground winning form.
11 Thomas Hobson Came fast from the back when winning the Ascot Stakes at this meeting in 2017 and a few days later he finished second in this event, just outstayed. Last seen when sixth in the G1 Melbourne Cup, he has class on his side here.
12 Count Octave Highly regarded though his only two wins have come on an all-weather surface over much shorter than this. A shade disappointing on his last two starts though they were in G2 company. Possibilities if he can handle this big step up in trip.
13 Glencadam Glory The winner of two of his nine starts, he has competed at a higher level than this without much success. From a top stable but some doubts on pedigree as to whether this distance will bring improvement.
14 Light Pillar Trained in France by ace trainer Andre Fabre – running well in a G3 and he has shown plenty of promise in two starts since moving to Ireland, latterly when just failing to give lots of weight to a rival. Hopes if this marathon trip suits.
15 Uber Cool On an upward curve winning his last two starts, latterly when he just held on under an astute ride from Frankie Dettori. That was over 3200m but he is a horse who can switch off and relax so there’s a fair chance that he’ll handle this marathon trip.
16 Meri Devie A high class hurdler in Ireland, though her wins came on easier ground than is anticipated here. Racing too keenly early she could never deliver a punch in the shorter Ascot Stakes earlier in the week, only beaten 8L though.
