The Hong Kong Jockey Club bought a pair of sharp two-year-old colts at last week’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale in Newmarket, England, for a total outlay of 555,000 guineas (approximately HK$6.43 million).
Lot 5 is from the final crop of the late Scat Daddy, a sire in the spotlight thanks to his impressive UAE Derby-winning son Mendelssohn. The unraced chestnut caught the eye with his athleticism whilst breezing down Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and the Club went to 375,000 guineas to secure him in the sale ring.
The youngster’s dam, Oxbow Lake, is a full-sister to the G3-placed Dynamia and hails from the family of North American G1 winners Cetewayo and Dynaforce, as well as the speedy G2 scorer Raah Algharb.
Lot 88 is another smart-moving juvenile with a high-quality pedigree. The handsome Farhh colt is a full-brother to a two-time winner, whilst his unraced dam is a half-sister to the G1 winners Ancient World and Jilbab. The family has also produced G1 scorers Dunbeath, Saratoga Six and Lakeway.
