Mega prize awaits fans at season opener this Sunday

Hong Kong’s Season Opening race meeting will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse this Sunday, 3 September. To usher in the new season, mega prizes totalling HK$60 million could be won. Spectacular on-course activities are planned and a new range of merchandise will be on offer. Each racegoer will receive a free 2017/18 Racing Calendar* as a door gift upon admission.

A prize of $20 million will be on offer for the season opening day this Sunday. The Triple Trio jackpot will be topped up to $12.5 million, with the payout estimated to reach $18 million if there is a single $10 winning unit. In addition, the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool of the last leg of the Triple Trio as well as the last race will each be topped up with a $1 million jackpot. For the first night race meeting next Wednesday, a total prize of $21 million will be available for grabs. The Triple Trio jackpot will be topped up to $6.5 million, with the winner of a single $10 winning unit expected to take home a dividend of up to $10 million. A jackpot of $6.5 million will also be available to the Six Up pool, with the payout of Six Win Bonus estimated to reach $11 million if there is a single $10 winning unit.

 A spectacular line-up of on-course events 
The opening ceremony will take place in the Parade Ring at 12:00 noon. It will start with the traditional eye-dotting of the ceremonial lions, followed by the gong-striking ceremony performed by HKSAR Chief Executive, The Hon Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.  Jockeys will also be in attendance to wish fans the very best for the coming season.

Mrs Lam will later present the trophy to the winning connections of the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup, scheduled to be run as Race 3 at 2 pm.

Fans can also strike the lucky gongs at all major entrances at Sha Tin Racecourse for a fabulous start to the new season. Statues of some of the 2016/17 Champion Awards winning horses and a themed photo kiosk will be set up for visitors to take pictures.

A new range of products includes a Limited Edition 1997/98 – 2016/17 Horse of the Year Pin Set, as well as Destination Series and Hero Sprinter Series merchandise. All are available for purchase at both racecourses at the Season Opening meeting. Pin Sets (sets of 20) will be available on the day, priced at HK$980. The design of the pins features Hong Kong Horses of the Year, including Indigenous, Fairy King Prawn, Silent Witness, Good Ba Ba, Viva Pataca, Ambitious Dragon, Able Friend, Werther, Rapper Dragon and more.

Sha Tin Racecourse will open for admission at 11:00 am on Sunday, 3 September for a 10-race card, with the first race starting at 1:00 pm.
