G1 – 1600m – Turf

1

One Stripe

Too strong for lesser opposition than this when landing a 1600m G1 in South Africa in January. Never threatened victory in a G1 at Woodbine in September.

2

Notable Speech

Didn’t justify favouritism but a close third in this last year. Booked his ticket for this with impressive winning acceleration in a Woodbine G1. Chance.

3

Sahlan

Valid excuses for early season setbacks but looking a formidable 1600m colt now, latterly defeating some top European milers in G1 at ParisLongchamp. A player.

4

The Lion In Winter

Still to build on lofty expectations encouraged by his 2yo career. But placed G1 efforts on his last two starts offer hopes of late 2025 excitements.

5

Program Trading

The stable won this before. His closing second in a strong-looking October G1 at Keeneland makes him respected here.

6

Gran Oriente

A 2000m G1 winner in Chile back in May but faces more formidable rivals here over a trip that looks short of ideal.

7

Johannes

Justified hot favouritism with a tidy G2 victory at Santa Anita recently. Respected, having looked like winning this last year – just grabbed late on.

8

Formidable Man

A strong US candidate with a formidable Del Mar record and twice a G2 winner here in recent months, latterly asserting decisively.

9

Argine

This late-closing mare is very effective in top Japanese turf company, and brave when winning an 1800m G3 at Sapporo in August.

10

Jonquil

Benefitted from a brilliant ride to win a 1600m G2 at Goodwood. Couldn’t quite reach the leaders from a wide gate in a recent Keeneland G1.

11

Rhetorical

Keeps winning and improving according to facts and figures, especially with a personal best over 1600m at Keeneland recently when giving his trainer a first G1 triumph.

12

Gas Me Up

Has effective winning 1600m form at Woodbine but no obvious reason why he can reverse placings with Notable Speech, his later G1 conqueror there.

13

Qirat

An apparent pacemaker when stealing the show at 150-1 in a 1600m Goodwood G1 in July. Not disgraced twice since but this would be another unexpected win.
