1400m – Turf
Beny Nahar | Good efforts but narrow defeats on both starts – at Newcastle and at Haydock – latterly finishing well clear of the third horse.
Bond | An expensive purchase who hinted at ability when fifth in a maiden over a longer trip than this at Killarney last month.
Ephron | First start for this colt who is probably best watched this time unless the market speaks in his favour.
Explosive Finnish | Looking inexperienced and never making an impact on his only start. An outsider.
Frescobaldi | From the Aidan O’Brien/Ryan Moore team is likely to attract plenty of interest, and clear of the third when a close second in a 1400m Fairyhouse maiden in June.
Ice Cube | A 50,000 gns yearling purchase and the first foal of a mare who was a winner over this trip.
Inishbeg | An interesting and well-bred newcomer – changing hands for a hefty 500,000 gns – and from a stable traditionally strong in the 2yo division.
King Of Thunder | Quite a promising start when prominent until just tiring late on in a 1200m maiden at Ascot last month. Likely to benefit from this longer trip.
Naval Light | Positive performances on all three outings, though couldn’t justify favouritism in a 1200m Goodwood maiden last time. His stable have won this before.
New Monarch | Trainer Andrew Balding says that his colt – who has finished second at Newbury and Ascot on his two starts – is crying out for the move up to this 1400m trip. Chance.
Night Wolf | Soared upwards in purchase price from a foal (42,000 gns) to a yearling (160,000 gns). Well related, he kicks off his career at this race.
Red Spells Danger | An inexpensive purchase who showed inexperience but still shaped with promise when third of 16 in a novices’ event over this C&D last month.
Sea The Power | Raced much too freely on his debut when third of five at Beverley last month. Very hard to fancy for the winners’ money.
Spyce | A 280,000 gns 2yo purchase, he is bred to eventually thrive over longer trips than this.
Isle Of Fernandez | Some promise on both starts latterly when second of 13 on very testing ground in a 1400m Goodwood maiden last month.
