1600m – Turf
1 | Ancient Rome | Gelded prior to two modest efforts at Meydan earlier this year. Some decent efforts – without winning – in Group contests last year. Looks hard to predict. |
2 | Witch Hunter | The mount of a good claiming rider, he has not been at this best recently. But Newbury usually brings out the best in him including his third in the G1 Lockinge Stakes on this day last year. |
3 | Crown Board | Only having her fourth start since making a winning career debut back in late 2023. Not disgraced at Kempton last month but plenty of improvement required to win this. |
4 | Epictetus | Fifth in the 2023 French Derby and won a soft-ground Goodwood G3 over this trip later that season. Well held twice last year and starts 2025 with a different stable. |
5 | English Oak | Produced a terrific performance when easily landing a 1400m Royal Ascot handicap last year. However, he hasn’t been the same horse since again disappointing this month. |
6 | Kingdom Come | Has performed well over the straight 1600m here in the past. But yet to actually win a race on turf and didn’t threaten at Thirsk earlier this month. |
7 | Ebt’s Guard | Both runs at Newbury have been good, especially his victory on the Round Course here last month when the outsider of the entire 14-runner field. Ran too keenly last time. |
8 | My Cloud | This lightly-raced colt began 2025 in the best possible manner when coming from last to first to easily win an Ascot handicap over the straight 1600m. Raised 10lb for that impressive effort. |
9 | Classic | Gelding may well have helped as he returned from an absence to run a solid third of 14 here last month. Potentially nicely treated off the same handicap mark. |
10 | Boyfriend | Only career win came here, with a brave performance over 1400m, in 2023. Unlucky when a close third on his second and final 2024 start, over 1600m at Goodwood. |
11 | Dutch Decoy | Will need to improve on anything he has achieved in his last six starts if he is to win this. The most recent of his nine career wins came back in July 2023. Best on quick ground. |
12 | Kitaro Kich | His last eleven starts – including four wins – have come on all-weather surfaces. In good shape in recent starts and suited by this 1600m trip. |
