G1 – 1600m – Turf

1

Pericles

Versatile galloper who can handle all types of track conditions and isn’t the roughest place chance. Is backing up from last Saturday when he failed to muster early speed to finish 3.66L 4th in the G2 Hill Stakes (1900m).

2

My Oberon

Was third in this race last year, finishing 2.81L behind Fangirl. Was sidelined for almost one year but returned with a respectable run in the G2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) last month. Wasn’t beaten far by Fangirl at his next start. Respect.

3

Lion’s Roar

A G1 winner at the track and distance in 2021 but recent races have been at a much lower level. Was a last start winner by 0.57L of the Listed Wyong Cup (2100m) and before that was second in a Listed 1600m race. This is up another level.

4

Major Beel

Front runner who led at the 400m mark of his last run in the G1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick. Hung onto seventh, beaten 3.7L. Last win was in a 1600m handicap here last month.

5

New Energy

Former European galloper who has raced five times in Australia for a first-up G3 second over 1300m. His one win in Ireland was at 1408m. Most recently was beaten 2.34L when finishing 5th in the G2 Shannon Stakes (1500m). Tough task.

6

Ceolwulf

Ran home strongly at most recent run to claim the G1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick. Has a good strike rate at the track and profiles perfectly for this encounter. Will have plenty of support.

7

Celestial Legend

Has raced at the track and distance twice for two wins. Was spelled after winning G1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in April, his third win in a row. His two runs back have been okay and he is ready to run for a tough 1600m from back in the field.

8

Tom Kitten

Can handle all types of track conditions and demands some consideration after last start 2nd in the G1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), beaten 1.17L. Has a win and two minor placings from five races at the trip and track. Could sneak a place.

9

Pride Of Jenni

Freakish front-running mare who will again split the field open and adopt catch me if you can tactics. Bounced back to her brilliant best with a 1.5L victory in the G2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley last month. Clearly the one to beat.

10

Fangirl

Champion mare who won this race last year and is aiming for her fourth G1. Prepared for this encounter with a win in the 7+ Sport Stakes (1600m) at Randwick last month. Likes the track and distance. Hard to beat.

11

Zougotcha

Stable could offer no explanation for the mare’s most recent performance when she finished last in the 7+ Sport Stakes (1600m). She previously finished a close 2nd to Via Sistina in the G1 Winx Stakes (1400m). Has won twice at the track and distance from four tries.

12

Amelia’s Jewel

Most recent win was in September last year when she downed Pride of Jenni in G2 1600m at Moonee Valley. Resumed this campaign with a pair of G2 seconds over 1400m. Will appreciate the rise to 1600m.
