Hong Kong Jockey Club scoops trio at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale

14/10/2024 16:49

The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased three eye-catching colts from Book 1 at the recent Tattersalls Yearling Sale (8-10 October) in Newmarket, Great Britain for a total outlay of GNS950,000 (approx. HK$10.37 million).

A striking chestnut colt by Mehmas, sold as Lot 79, was the first to fall the Club’s way for GNS380,000. Mehmas is the sire of the Group 3-winning Taj Dragon, a six-time winner. The youngster’s dam Arctic Ocean won twice from eight runs; her first foal is a one-time victor.

Starspangledbanner needs little introduction as a sire in Hong Kong; the Club was pleased to secure Lot 180, a colt for GNS170,000. Starspangledbanner’s headline offspring in Hong Kong are Group 1 winners California Spangle and Beauty Eternal. The bay’s half-sister Kitteridge placed third in Listed Stakes company at Newmarket this year.

A grey colt by Havana Grey was secured by the Club for GNS400,000 as Lot 182. Havana Grey has proven his value in Hong Kong as a sire, boasting seven wins from current horses in training: Kaholo Angel (three), Reward Smile (two) and Lean Master (two).
