G1 – 1000m – Turf

1

Batwan

A veteran French-trained sprinter who had a tricky passage when ninth in this last year. Still pretty fast but surely some younger rivals will be even faster.

2

Moss Tucker

Never dangerous when 11th in this last year. He is a G1 sprinting winner – at the Curragh last year – but needs to improve on some recent starts. Soft ground would help.

3

Washington Heights

Sixth and fifth behind Bradsell in G1s on his last two starts, latterly when fitted with cheekpieces for the first time. May be better suited by 1200m than this 1000m.

4

Starlust

Mostly very solid sprinting efforts in 2024, perhaps the best coming last time when only beaten 1L in third by Bradsell in a G1 at York. Quick ground then but effective on slower.

5

Kerdos

Eighth in this last year, only beaten 2.5L. Won a G2 sprint on slow ground in May and has run well in three top sprints on quicker ground since without quite being fast enough.

6

Grand Grey

Finishing well, he was a very close fourth in a tight finish for a soft-ground G3 sprint here last month. Consistent, and if things work out he might pose a big threat.

7

Desperate Hero

Meets the five finished in front of him when ran sixth in a G1 at the Curragh last month. A smart sprinter but again likely to find a few too good.

8

Aesop’s Fables

Didn’t win in 2023 but his fast-finishing third in this G1 last year was his 2023 best effort. Won a Listed class sprint at Naas in May, probably needing last month’s return here.

9

Bradsell

The star of the 2024 sprinting season, unbeaten and winning G1s on his last two starts. Slow ground could be an issue, but class may carry him through. Plans will surely be to sit right up with the speed.

10

Rogue Lightning

Won three consecutive sprints last year, proving himself on a variety of surfaces. Fifth in this last year, running a good trial for the 2024 version when a close third here last month.

11

Makarova

Gained a deserved sprinting win in a G3 at Sandown in July, and in three starts since has made an impact in G2 and G1 company without looking like winning. Soft ground helps.

12

Mgheera

A smart sprinter, and too fast for ten rivals in Listed company at Chantilly in June. Nearest at the finish when a very close fifth in a G3 dash here last month.

13

No Half Measures

Not quite quick enough but beaten less than a length when sixth here last month. Reappeared soon after to win a G3 at Newbury. Heavy ground then, conditions that would help.

14

Believing

This very talented filly won at the Curragh in May, showing some outstanding late speed with placed efforts in G2 and G1 company since. Needs luck with her style of racing but certainly has the class.

15

La Bellota

It is not impossible for a 2yo speedster to land this sprint – it happened last in 2022. Yet to win but his close second in a 1200m Newbury sprint last month was encouraging.

16

Englemere

A busy 2yo, winning three of his eight starts. But not quick enough in a sprint over this course and distance last month, so probably won’t be swift enough here.
