G1 – 1400m – Turf

Karar Led for most of the way in this race last year, and though easily beaten by Limato he kept on well for second. Gelded prior to his last start when he produced a near-career best to win a soft-ground G3 over this course and distance, leading early and quickening from the front.
Zelzal A G1 winner over 1600m here at Chantilly last year, though this 1400m will be the shortest he has raced over in his eight race career. Tends to come fast from off the pace but the soft ground seemed to blunt his late speed when fourth in a 1600m Goodwood G1 last time.
Brando Extremely effective on his day, delivering a blistering surge from midfield to win a 1300m G1 at Deauville in August. However he ran way below that at Haydock subsequently, and he’ll need to bounce back here plus prove himself over this specialist 1400m trip.
Aclaim Seems best at this time of year, and about a year ago won a Newmarket G2 over this distance on quick ground. He also won a G2 at Doncaster over a similar trip to this last time out, quickening well from near the pace. Slow ground that day. A player here.
Toscanini His five career wins have all come at 1200m but plenty of good runs over this distance including a close second in a G3 at York last time. That also proved that is still smart in his own right, having been a pacemaker for brilliant Ribchester on previous starts.
Zalamea Has run decently in warm company and made some headway from off the speed when fourth in a soft-ground G3 over this course and distance in September. He’d struggled in G1 and G2 company on his two previous starts and may struggle again here.
So Beloved Reaching the veteran stage now and has been beaten in his last 16 starts. More positively he is a specialist at this distance and beat a subsequent G1 winner in a soft-ground G3 over this distance back in 2015. Tactically versatile.
Attendu He ran a respectable fifth in this race last year, sitting midfield but not able to make a big impact in the last 200m. He has enjoyed quite a good 2017 and, under a positive ride, he won a G3 over the straight 1600m at Deauville last time. Happy on good or soft ground.
Realtra Has a good winning strike rate, is effective at 1400m and seems to handle all sorts of ground. She comes here fresh off a soft-ground G3 victory over slightly further than this at Tipperary in August. The third that day enhanced the form with a subsequent G3 win.
Dame Du Roi Came from last to first to win a Fillies’ G3 at Maisons-Laffitte last November, clearly happy on the soft conditions. Lightly raced in 2017 but they have all been decent efforts including when third in a G3 over this course and distance last time.
