The Hong Kong Jockey Club marked the 22nd anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) today (1 July) at Sha Tin Racecourse by staging the Hong Kong Reunification Raceday. The Hong Kong Reunification Cup and Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup were the feature races, while a range of on-course activities were also offered as part of the event. In addition, complimentary “Celebrating the Anniversary of Reunification” souvenir fans were handed out to racegoers as they streamed through the racecourse gates.

The Hong Kong Reunification Cup was run as Race 7. Secretary for Food and Health Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, together with Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Lu Xinning, and Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Song Ru’an presented the trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup was run as Race 6. Club Chairman Dr Anthony W K Chow, and Deputy Director-General, Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province, Mai Liang, presented the trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey.

The Hong Kong Reunification Cup was won by the Danny Shum-trained Green Energy, ridden by Dylan Mo while the John Moore-trained Buddies with Zac Purton aboard took the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup.

The Hong Kong Reunification Cup celebrates the on-going achievements of Hong Kong’s world-class racing. Horse racing is Hong Kong’s most popular spectator sport and an integral part of Hong Kong’s image as a world-class city. Through horse racing, the Club demonstrates its commitment to global excellence, and giving back to society.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup celebrates the anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with China and showcases the fruitful co-operation and exchange in sports and culture between Guangdong and Hong Kong. The Club is a long-standing supporter of equestrian development in Guangdong. Conghua Racecourse (CRC) has come into operation since August 2018 and the Club staged its first Exhibition Raceday in March this year, which was not only a historic moment for Hong Kong racing but also demonstrated the potential of CRC to contribute to the development of equine sports in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, building on the close co-operation between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
