| Sergeant Hardy | Winner of the G1 Cape Flying Championship at Kenilworth in January, this gelding is undoubtedly the runner to beat. He is the best handicapped horse and had a good warm-up run at Greyville recently. |
| Bishop’s Bounty | Another runner from the Justin Snaith yard but he finished well behind Sergeant Hardy (2nd) on his last start at Greyville. Needs to improve to be a threat in this race. |
| Trip To Heaven | This is the best horse in the country never to have won a G1 race and would be a popular winner if he can finally clinch this. He tends to lose ground at the start and then flies up late. Has not won in more than a year but has a definite winning chance. |
| Champagne Haze | Caused an upset when he won the G3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap over this course and distance in yielding going. He ran well once again over this course and distance last time when second behind Rocky Valley with Trip To Heaven and Attenborough behind him. Winning chance. |
| Attenborough | Better over 1200m and will have a bit to find on Sergeant Hardy over 1000m. He has had one race over the course and distance and did run well to finish a close-up fourth. Trip To Heaven (3rd) was in front of him and is 4lb better off this time. |
| Rocky Valley | A speedy gelding who won his last start well, beating Champagne Haze, Trip To Heaven and Attenborough. He is worse off at the weights with all three of them and could be found out in this company. Outside chance. |
| Graduation Day | Very talented sprinter but has soundness issues. Lost his form recently but showed a glimmer of his former ability last time when up with pace before fading late to finish 4.4 lengths behind Rocky Valley. Winning chance if he produces his best form. |
| Golden Man | Looks poorly handicapped and totally outclassed in this field. He is well held by a number of runners on form and also prefers further. He has yet to win over 1000m in 61 visits to the racecourse. |
| Naafer | This Australian-bred colt was strongly fancied to win the G1 Cape Flying Championship at Kenilworth in January but after a false start his jockey was unable to pull him up and he was scratched. Needed his last race when unplaced behind Rocky Valley and will improve. Big runner. |
| Pinnacle Peak | A lightly raced three-year-old who has won three of his six starts. Takes a massive jump in class and would do well to run a place in this event. However, both the trainer and jockey are currently in good form. |
| Rebel’s Champ | Very impressive winner of his last race and also had a good run behind Tandava in February who went on to win the G2 Senor Santa Stakes. This will be the first time against this class of runner but on his day could win a race of this nature. Decent outsider. |
| Down To Zero | Some decent form over 1200m but has yet to race over this trip. He is another who has yet to run against this level of opposition but could place. |
| Speedpoint | Has some excellent form in Cape Town where he has placed behind some of the best three-year-olds in the country. Put up a great run when fourth in his debut run at Vaal and will improve on that effort. Must be in with a winning chance. |
| Exquisite Touch | A top-class filly who has won six of her 10 starts and four of them over this course and distance. She gave the boys a hiding when winning the G3 Man O’ War Sprint over 1100m at this track and is currently in top form. Massive runner. |
| Wrecking Ball | Very speedy filly who will be up with pace early on but she does look held by both Exquisite Touch and Champagne Haze on recent runs. Place at best. |
| Queen Laurie | Finished a 2.2-length third behind Exquisite Touch last time and should have little hope of reversing that as she is now 7lb worse off. Could place at best. |
