Good effort last start when finished 0.6L second to Joliestar in G1 1200m here on 4 April when finished strongly. Won this race in 2023 when came from well back. Top contender.

Jimmysstar

Won this race last year when came from rear to score by 0.59L. His last two runs this campaign haven’t gone to plan, including 2.28L fifth in G1 1200m when squeezed at the start. Distance suits and the one to beat.

Briasa

Finished fourth in this race last year when only 1.41L behind Jimmysstar. Didn’t handle the wet conditions last start when 4.59L eighth of nine in G1 1200m. Improvement needed.

Tom Kitten

Raced handy when won G1 The All-Star Mile (1600m) on 7 March but just laboured in the last 300m in G1 Australian Cup (2000m) for 4.88L seventh. This is a drastic reduction in distance and hard to see him featuring here.

Half Yours

Returns after completing the G1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and G1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) double at the last two starts. Has been good in two jump outs. While he has good first-up form and has a win and a second at the distance, he’ll find a couple of these too slick.

Pericles

Had no favours in G1 1600m on 4 April when jumped okay but went back to last from a wide barrier to get cover. Finished fifth of 16, beaten 7.65L, when no luck in straight. Has two wins and a second at the track and distance. Place hope.

Royal Patronage

Hasn’t raced since beating one home in G1 1609m at Randwick last October. Won the third of three trials to prepare for this and has won at the track and distance. Others appeal more.

Angel Capital

Hasn’t had much luck in his past two, including last start 0.46L second in G1 1200m when raced tight early but finished off strongly when got out wide. Chance again.

Headley Grange

Past couple haven’t been too bad when he has worked home okay. He was beaten 7.74L in G1 1600m on 4 April when he finished seventh of 16. Needs to find improvement but has two wins at the track and distance.

Kovalica

Hasn’t won since last June’s 2200m G2 victory at Eagle Farm. Showed some improvement last start when G3 2.38L fourth over 1500m when ran home strongly. Won’t find this any easier.

Fangirl

Tackles this race fresh since last racing in November for G1 fourth over 1600m. Her first-up form is good and she has four wins, a second and two thirds at the track and distance. Big show.

Lazzura

Hard to fault her past two with G1 1500m victory at a big weight and before that narrow second in G2 1300m. Capable of a place at odds.

Magic Time

Hampered early at her last start when 3.84L seventh of nine in G1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) on 4 April. Distance suits but would need to return to her best to be a threat here.

Beiwacht

Led at last start in G1 1500m before weakening to finish 4.06L sixth on 21 March. Has since won 900m trial. Back to 1400m is more suitable.
