G3 – 2400m – Turf
Campaldino | Went on a tear through the first half of 2025, winning four of six starts and running second twice. Is third up from a lengthy spell here and looks a leading hope after winning the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) last start.
Alalcance | Scratched
Changingoftheguard | Ninth in last year’s G1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), this seven-year-old resumed with a 1900m sixth last month. Will enjoy the step up in trip here but likely still needs the run.
Travolta | Has been competitive in three starts this preparation and now gets out to a distance where he can really figure. Good each-way hope.
Athabascan | Showed sharp improvement from his first to second starts this preparation and is another who will enjoy stretching out to 2400m. Keep safe.
Palmetto | Veteran has now gone over a year since tasting success and he has mixed his form in two starts back from a spell. Prefer others here.
Star Of India | Was never in contention when failing to beat a runner home in the recent Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) and would need to improve sharply to figure here. Look elsewhere.
Juja Kibo | Stuck on well for third in the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) on 7 March, finishing less than two lengths off winner Campaldino, and he should be right in the finish here.
Taramansour | Fitness should not be an issue fourth up this year after two 2400m runs in Tasmania last month but may just lack the class to be truly competitive here.
Sam Hawkens | Best would be good enough to give this a shake but form has only been moderate in two starts this preparation. Each-way chance.
Don Diego De Vega | Had a tough time of things when resuming with an 11th over the Randwick 2000m last month and should improve here, although is probably a run or two away from his best.
Tempesti | Was only OK when returning with a ninth at Wangaratta last month and looks to have his work cut out for him stepping up in grade here. Prefer others.
Saganti | Doesn’t win out of turn but did show marked improvement last start and another step up in trip here looks suitable. Could nab a place.
Mr Monaco | British import has settled into Australia nicely and looks well placed here off the back of a last-start win over the Randwick 2000m and a 2400m success at Caulfield in October. Leading chance.
Newlook | Will be fitter for a first-up fifth at Wangaratta on 28 February but this is a much stiffer test and it’s hard to see him being a factor.
| Reserve | ||
Kadavar | Has started at massive odds in three mediocre efforts this preparation and it’s hard to see that changing here. Look elsewhere.
