G2 – 1800m – Turf
1 |
Maljoom |
Former William Haggas-trained galloper was enormous when finishing third behind Soul Rush and Romantic Warrior in April’s G1 Dubai Turf (1800m). Has only run once since, finishing 11th on debut for Michael Costa three weeks ago, and may need the run here. |
2 |
Alakazi |
Four-year-old colt has been spelled since running third in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in October. Tackles the distance for the first time and looks to have plenty of improvement in him. Chance. |
3 |
Holloway Boy |
Finished second behind Nations Pride in this race last year and was third behind Opera Ballo in last month’s G1 Jebel Hatta (1800m) at this course and distance. Finished second in Doha last start and looks hard to beat here. |
4 |
Quddwah |
Has won seven of his 14 starts, with his latest success coming in the G2 Zabeel Mile (1600m) at Meydan on 2 January. Step up in distance could be timely and he looks one of the better chances. |
5 |
Dividend |
British handicapper has impressed in the first three runs in Middle East, placing third before reeling off wins over 1800m and 1900m on the Meydan turf. This is a big step up but he looks capable of improvement. Each-way chance. |
6 |
Tumbler |
French galloper showed something on his United Arab Emirates debut, finishing a close third over the Meydan 1400m, but he was only average over 1600m at Abu Dhabi last start. Would need everything to go right to figure here. |
7 |
Folk Festival |
Lightly raced five-year-old has mixed his form quite remarkably in three starts since returning from a lengthy layoff, finishing 12th, first and 13th. Looks likely to struggle in this company. |
8 |
Dioptase |
Was a course-and-distance fourth two starts back but struggled last start and does look to be a level below his toughest opponents in this contest. Look elsewhere. |
