G2 – 1000m – Turf
West Acre | British galloper enjoyed a fruitful Dubai swing last year, landing two Group successes down the Meydan straight – including this race – before running eighth in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m). Has been freshened up and is one of the top chances.
Cover Up | Finished third behind West Acre in this race last year and has twice saluted at the course and distance, including a last-start victory in a Listed race on 19 December. Place hope.
Democracy Dilemma | Races for the first time since September and is stepping up in grade quite considerably. Has raced at Meydan before for a 1200m third in a handicap but looks out of his depth.
Spartan Arrow | Has raced in G1 company in the United Kingdom and saw off West Acre in a polytrack G3 contest at Dundalk in Ireland in October. Has his first look at Meydan but 1000m is his go. Place chance.
Tawalla | Lightly raced six-year-old has proved highly effective in handicap company since moving to the United Arab Emirates in 2024, winning three times and placing twice from six attempts, but was no match for West Acre in his one run in group company.
Logo Hunter | Races for the first time since finishing seventh behind West Acre in this race 12 months ago. Has had another trainer change and will need the run.
Ponntos | Eight-year-old warhorse found only West Acre too good in this race last year but his form since finishing fourth behind Asfoora in October’s G1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp (1000m) has been ordinary. Comes off a last-placed finish on dirt.
Echo Point | One of the local gallopers of the field has been racing consistently in lesser company but would need to find considerably more to be competitive here. Look elsewhere.
Swift Asset | Raced in Great Britain, Bahrain and Qatar, winning five times from 23 starts, before making his debut in the United Arab Emirates with a last-start fifth behind Cover Up at Meydan. Might not have the class to be competitive here.
The Man | Has won twice from seven starts in Great Britain, leaping straight into Group company after a debut success in April 2024. Has mixed his form since and does not instill any great confidence here.
Hilitany | Three-year-old made a positive start to his career with two wins and a second from his first three starts before finishing seventh of nine in the G1 Middle Park Stakes (1200m) for two-year-olds at Newmarket. Should take improvement from a recent fourth over the Meydan 1200m and can figure down in trip.
