G1 – 1000m – Turf

1

Buffalo Storm Cody

Was a G1 winner among seven victories in 2025 and continued his strong run of form with a decisive last-start success on 21 February. Will be hard to beat here.

2

Kingdundee

Made it four wins on the trot when snaring January’s G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship (1000m) last start and is undefeated at five furlongs. Looms as Buffalo Storm Cody’s biggest danger.

3

William Robertson

Got by a length of Buffalo Storm Cody in February’s Pinnacle Stakes (1160m) and has raced well in two starts since. Won this race 12 months ago and there’s no reason he won’t be in the mix again. Each-way chance.

4

Truth

Has mixed his form of late and while his best is good enough to be competitive, it’s hard to have any confidence here. Prefer others.

5

Taxi To The Moon

Is in the midst of a strong run of form with two wins and two seconds from his past four starts. Went second by 0.4L of William Robertson at G3 level last start and can figure on a place line here.

6

Ziyasha

Returned to form with a nice last-start success but this is a much stiffer test and he doesn’t look to quite have the tools to be truly competitive.

7

Future Variety

Five-year-old gelding failed to fire last time out and looks poised to start as one of the outsiders of the field. Others appeal more.

8

Luhamba Phambili

Might have only won once from eight starts in 2025 but rarely turned in a bad performance. That being said, he hasn’t shown anything to suggest he can fire at this level. Look elsewhere.

9

Arctic Wizard

Was twice a 1000m winner in 2025 but now he will be tasked with transferring that form to the challenging Turffontein track. Not this time.

10

Mount Pinatubo

Has been solid enough in two starts since a lengthy layoff but he looks another who just isn’t quite up to the best of his opponents here. Steer clear.

11

Mover And Shaker

Notched his first win in almost two years in January and then was only narrowly beaten by William Robertson last start. His inconsistency is the main concern and he would need a lot of luck to figure here.

12

Chocolate Soldier

Struggled through much of 2025 and picked up where he left off upon returning, beating only two rivals home when first up in March. Will need this run.

13

Constellation

Three-year-old colt has won four of his nine starts and looks to have plenty of improvement to come. Will enjoy some weight relief and deserves his spot here, but it might just be too tall an order at this stage of his career.

14

Almond Sea

Four-year-old filly has compiled an impressive record, racking up six wins and six placings from 16 starts, and she looks poised to be competitive here. Each-way chance.

15

Mia Moo

Has been left wanting in two starts in 2026, finishing last in a G2 and then beating home just one rival in a G1 last start. Drops in trip here but doesn’t excite.

16

Whistle The Tune

Has had a four-month spell since a positive end to 2025 but will have her work cut out first up against the boys and is likely to need the run.

17

Green Diamond

Saluted two starts back before finishing only 1.7L adrift of William Robertson on 7 March. Can give a cheeky sight here.
