G2 – 2000m – Dirt
1 |
Heart Of Honor |
Strung together consecutive wins to start his Middle Eastern swing before finishing third behind Imperial Emperor in the recent G1 Al Maktoum Challenge (1900m). Can be a big player if race conditions suit. |
2 |
Mendelssohn Bay |
Has been in strong form over 1600m, winning two of his past three starts, but his course-and-distance form does little to excite. Would need to add another string to his bow to figure here. |
3 |
Meydaan |
Was far from disgraced in both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in Australia late last year and has been good in two Meydan starts since. Trialled well on the dirt recently and is an each-way chance at a distance short of his best. |
4 |
Walk Of Stars |
G1 winner was fourth over this course and distance in last year’s G1 Dubai World Cup (2000m) and has shown enough in the recent two starts to suggest he can be a factor here. Strong chance. |
5 |
Generous Tipper |
Was sixth behind Walk Of Stars in last year’s G1 Al Maktoum Challenge (1900m) and warmed up for this with a course-and-distance second in calmer waters. Outside place chance. |
6 |
Tap Leader |
Developed a reputation as a winning machine in Russia before joining the Dubai stable of Doug Watson and again saluting, prevailing over this course and distance last month. Stiffer test here though and might not quite be up to it. |
7 |
Killer Collect |
Has done his fair share of winning but has been found out when stepping into Group company recently. That looks unlikely to change here. |
8 |
Masmak |
Went to Jebel Ali to snare a dead-heat success last start but his form in bigger races at Meydan prior to that was only moderate. Looks a level below the best here. |
9 |
Flying Honours |
Boasts a G3 win on turf in the United Kingdom but has returned mixed results from his forays onto the dirt. Does look capable on the surface but this is likely too stern a test. |
10 |
Antrim |
Four-year-old boasts three wins from his eight starts and carried his strong British form to Meydan when winning over 2200m on dirt on 16 January. Was only fourth over this course and distance last start and rises in grade, but can trouble the placings with improvement. |
