G3 – 1800m – Turf
Pay The Palace | Steps out for the first time since an eighth-placed finish behind Jan Van Goyen in the G1 Cape Guineas (1600m) on 13 December. Doesn’t win out of turn but can place here.
Happy Verse | Beat all but the exciting Jan Van Goyen in the G1 Cape Guineas (1600m) and has won three of six career starts so far. Should enjoy racing over 1800m for the first time and looks a big player.
Better Man | Was beaten only narrowly when running fourth on 13 January and has shown consistency early in his career, winning twice and placing twice from seven starts. Jumps in grade here, however, and would need to improve considerably to go close.
Randolph Hearst | Another out of the G1 Cape Guineas (1600m), finishing 3.05L back in third, this three-year-old gelding has only missed a place once in seven career starts. Should love the extra distance and looks every chance.
Count Of Rouen | Has mixed his form in seven starts since saluting on debut and connections will be hoping the addition of blinkers can prove telling. One of the outsiders of the field who is likely out of his depth here.
Fox On The Run | Started his career with plenty of promise, running second then winning twice, before not looking out of place in much stronger company. Draws a better gate in six here and should thrive up in trip. Big chance.
Touched By Angels | Hasn’t missed the top three in five career starts, banking two wins and three close placings. Races beyond 1400m for the first time and looks capable of sharp improvement in a stiffer test here.
Star Major | Gave a decent sight for sixth in the G1 Cape Guineas (1600m) at long odds last start and looks another who is open to improvement up in distance. Place chance.
