1000m – Turf

1 Roskilde Looked promising on debut when running third behind Champagne Castle and Red Spice, who he meets again here, and he does look capable of improvement. Can give a sight.
2 Sweet Green Another who has had just one start, this two-year-old finished 0.4L behind the reopposing Catwalk King on debut on 6 December and looks to have the tools to go one better here.
3 Preacher Man One of five debutants in the field, this daughter of Real Gone Kid looks a nice filly but may just need the run and the benefit of experience before being a winning chance.
4 Virginia Bluebell Another filly who looks to have potential ahead of her debut, a forward showing would not surprise here. By What A Winter out of Cape Bluebell.
5 Catwalk King Began his career with a nice fifth and built on that with a narrow victory over Sweet Green at his second outing. Can improve again and will be difficult to beat here.
6 African Wild Dog Hails from the right stable, having been prepared by six-time South African champion trainer Justin Snaith, and looks to be forward enough to give a strong showing on debut.
7 Magma Flow Began his career with a five-length fifth in that Champagne Castle race and does look to have a bit to find to be truly competitive here. Could sneak into the placings.
8 Shesheleza A two-year-old colt by Captain Of All, this galloper’s preparation suggests he is likely to need the run and will be more effective down the track. Prefer others.
9 Just Carter Boasts a different formline to several in this race who have already run, posting a half-length second to First Officer on debut on 19 December. That effort was over only 900m, however, and he will need to improve to measure up here.
10 Champagne Castle Followed up a debut third with a nice course-and-distance success on 13 December. Beat a handful of this weekend’s opponents on that occasion and looks the one to beat here.
11 Kiartay Looked a horse with a future when running second on debut over the same course and distance as Saturday’s race. Should improve markedly for that effort and can figure here.
12 World Series Has been working well at home under the tutelage of trainer Vaughan Marshall and he looks the most likely of the debutants to be in the finish. Needs considering.
13 Red Spice Needed the run when finishing seventh, beaten nearly six lengths, on debut, but took improvement from that and looked good when running second to Champagne Castle last start. Is tracking the right way.
