Chasing his first G3 Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Handicap (1800m) victory, trainer Francis Lui is armed with two chances in the HK$4.2 million feature on Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day (Sunday, 9 November) at Sha Tin.

Champion jockey Zac Purton will partner Cap Ferrat for the first time, while Jerry Chau will again ride Chancheng Glory in the Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse, an important lead-up race ahead of December’s HK$130 million LONGINES Hong Kong International Races (HKIR).

Lui said: “Cap Ferrat is currently in fine form. He ran well last time in the Group 2 (Sha Tin Trophy Handicap, 1600m), just held up for clear running and could not be ridden out to the finish of the race. However, he was beaten not far and hopefully with Zac onboard this time, he will run close.”

2025 BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) victor Cap Ferrat has been entered in both the HK$40 million G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup (2000m) and the HK$36 million G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Mile (1600m).

Lui revealed that he will confirm the target after Sunday’s Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse.

“Cap Ferrat will be aimed at the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races and his performance on Sunday will tell us which HKIR race he will run,” Lui said. “Purton rode him in trackwork last week and the feedback from him was positive.”

Meanwhile, Chancheng Glory will make his Hong Kong reappearance after finishing a gallant second behind Japan’s Diktaean in the 2025 G3 Korea Cup (1800m, sand) in September.

“Chancheng Glory recovered well from his Korea trip and is in good shape,” Lui said. “He had a couple of trials after coming back to Hong Kong and is well prepared for Sunday’s race.

“Chancheng Glory will also be aimed at HKIR and hopefully both horses will run well to enhance their chances of being selected for the event,” Lui added.

A total of 16 horses are entered for the Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse, including Beauty Joy (135lb), Chancheng Glory (132lb), Happy Together (129lb), Cap Ferrat (127lb), Moments In Time (127lb), Sunlight Power (126lb), Ensued (125lb), Massive Sovereign (124lb), Rubylot (124lb), Sword Point (124lb), Bundle Award (123lb), Pray For Mir (122lb), Californiatotality (115lb), Encountered (112lb) and two reserves: La City Blanche (105lb) and Ka Ying Generation (101lb).
