The Season Opening race meeting

The Season Opening race meeting will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse this Sunday (7 September). The Honourable John KC LEE, GBM, SBS, PDSM, PMSM, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is to officiate at the opening ceremony as well as the trophy presentation of the day’s feature event – the Class 1 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup Handicap (1200m).


Spectacular on-course activities will be on offer, while each racegoer will receive a complimentary 2025/26 Racing Calendar* . The Club offers a total of HK$108 million in mega prizes to mark the new racing season #.

The opening ceremony will take place in the Parade Ring at 11.40am.  Following the traditional eye-dotting of the ceremonial lions, The Honourable John KC LEE, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will perform the gong-striking ceremony. All jockeys will be in attendance to wish fans the very best for the coming season. The Honourable John KC LEE, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will later present the trophy to the winning connections of the Class 1 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup Handicap (1200m), scheduled to run as Race 3 at 2pm.

The Season Opener features an array of exciting off-track festivities throughout the day. Key highlights include:

  • Popular singer MC Cheung will entertain fans with an opening performance in the Parade Ring at 11.40am. +
  • The Class 1 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup, a HK$3.72 million contest run over 1200m on turf, is assigned as Race 3. Reigning Horse of the Year Ka Ying Rising is amongst the star sprinters in the line-up.
  • Shatin Racecourse Delights: Season Opening Lucky Draw offers the chance to win prizes worth a total of over HK$880,000. The top prize includes a “Behind the Scenes” stable tour and a designated HKJC dining voucher valued at HK$15,000^.
  • Racegoers will have the chance to win a designated horse plush at the on-site game Racing Trivia • Strike & Win Challenge**.
  • Special cuisine is on offer at Public Betting Hall Trackside Kiosk 2, featuring such delights as the mouth-watering Haloumi and Chicken Fillet Wrap, the must-try Baby Crayfish Patty Burger with Wasabi & Honey Mayo, crispy Assorted Cheese Puffs and flavourful Baked Portobello with Beef Bolognese.
  • Free shuttle bus services to Sha Tin Racecourse will be available on 7 September. Tickets, available while stocks last, can now be collected at designated Off-Course Betting Branches. For details, including boarding locations, please refer to the event theme site.
