| 3 | Path Of Soldier | Stablemate of Zuckerhut and choice of stable jockey Andrasch Starke, a Hamburg native who has his heart set on this race. G3 winner from a multiple German-Derby winning stable. |
| 4 | Hochkonig | No stamina issues and in with a solid chance after an excellent G2 second over 2200m at Koln. |
| 5 | Lazio | Won all three races as a juvenile but winless this term and behind in a French G3 in May. Attractive sort but place hopes at best. |
| 6 | Lady Charlotte | Unbeaten filly who took a G3 at Hoppegarten latest. Bred to stay and top jockey Adrie de Vries on board. Bid to become the first filly to win the German Derby since Borgia in 1997. |
| 7 | Convergent | Hasn’t run since third in G3 at Chester in early May behind English and Irish Derby hero Lambourn; that looks very strong form now. Absence since a slight worry. |
| 8 | Pompeo Dream | Won a 1700m soft-ground G3 at Krefeld last November but made no impact in a G3 in Italy in April. An unlikely winner. |
| 9 | Zauberkonig | Stablemate of Zuckerhut and Path Of Soldier but looks third string on form. |
| 10 | Delgardo | Broke his maiden on his fourth attempt, a distance-winner. This front runner is in good hands but only a Listed win so far to his name. |
| 11 | Abando | Still a maiden after three runs. Mixed it with the best though and an each-way case to make after his latest third place in principle German Derby trial. |
| 12 | Name Lord | Won his maiden at this venue last year, his only win to date. And has come up short against several of these opponents. Hard to fancy. |
| 13 | Sedano | Yet to win at a high level, his two wins coming at minor French tracks. |
| 14 | Waldnebel | Experienced runner who is bred to stay and proven at this trip. Lacks the class of some but place possibilities. |
| 15 | The Sheriff | French raider who lacks concrete form but trainer thinks he is on the upgrade. |
| 16 | Amico | Trainer won two of the last four running´s and this has been a talking horse for a while. Failed to convince in three outings though so will be an outsider. |
| 17 | Enzian | One of the lowest rated runners and hard to fancy. |
| 18 | Dux | A maiden after six starts and impossible to fancy. |
