G1 – 1600m – Turf

1

Benevento

Prominent from the gates in the G3 trial over this course and distance but could not respond when things got serious. He’s decent but likely to be outclassed.

2

Expanded

A late-maturing type who turned up for a 1400m G1 here last October just a week after his career debut. He ran a terrific second there, and horses with a similar two-year-old profile have won this in recent times.

3

Field Of Gold

Won two of his four starts last year but improved massively from those good efforts when scything past rivals from the back for a highly impressive G3 victory over this course and distance last month. Top chance.

4

Green Impact

Won two of his three starts last season, latterly when showing a willing attitude under pressure to narrowly land a 1600m G2 at Leopardstown. From a top Irish stable though their horses are currently struggling to hit peak form.

5

Ruling Court

A beaten favourite when third on his second start, but not best positioned in that York G3. Returned to land a runaway victory in Listed company over this trip at Meydan in March. Respected especially with the stable’s strong record in this.

6

Scorthy Champ

Only defeat last year came when unable to overcome a slow start in a G2 at the Curragh but back there in September he landed a G1. That was over 1400m but he was strongest at the finish and it will come as a surprise if 1600m doesn’t suit.

7

Seagulls Eleven

Just one win from six starts in 2024, but proved he could handle G1 company when third and fourth in 1400m events at the Curragh and Newmarket. Probably too big a challenge here.

8

Shadow Of Light

Was one of last season’s leading juveniles and is unbeaten here, ending the campaign with a rare double of G1 victories at Newmarket. They came over 1200m and 1400m and there are worries from his pedigree that this 1600m may prove just beyond him.

9

Tornado Alert

Won on his second and final start of his two-year-old career, at Newcastle. However, although there are no distance worries, it is most unlikely that he can cope with rivals who have achieved much more.

10

Wimbledon Hawkeye

He has 3.5l to find with Field Of Gold on his second to that colt in a G3 here last month. But plenty went wrong for him that day, racing too keenly and seeing too much daylight. It showed that he had trained on from last year and is a respected outsider.

11

Yah Mo Be There

Came from the back to win a 1200m Listed event at Newbury last July. Reappeared last month when again coming from the back and finishing fifth in a 1400m Newbury G3. Hard to fancy.
