The HK$26 million 148th BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) will be run and won this Sunday (23 March) at Sha Tin Racecourse, offering once-in-a-lifetime glory for Hong Kong’s rising stars. As the pinnacle of the HK$52 million Four-Year-Old Classic Series, BMW Hong Kong Derby is one of the great sporting events and attractions in the city for both racing fans in Hong Kong and from around the world, with the race being broadcast in 26 countries.
Admission to Sha Tin and Happy Valley racecourses commences at 11am with the first race scheduled for 1pm. Visitors to Hong Kong can enjoy free entry to the Public Enclosure at Sha Tin on Sunday by presenting a valid travel document and join the designated guided racing experience tour around the racecourse for free.
International movie star Donnie Yen returns as the Derby Ambassador for the 13th consecutive year, joining racegoers to experience the excitement of the BMW Hong Kong Derby, featured as Race 7 at 4.05pm. This year’s race is headlined by Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m) winner My Wish and Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) triumphant Rubylot, winners of the first two legs of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, along with 12 other up-and-coming stars.
First run in 1873, the Hong Kong Derby has a proud history of producing champions, like Golden Sixty, Romantic Warrior and Voyage Bubble who have excelled on the global racing stage.
HK$6.8 million jackpots in prize for grabs
The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will be topped up with a HK$3 million jackpot from the Operator Reserve, which will be allocated to BMW Hong Kong Derby, Race 7. In addition, a jackpot of HK$3.8 million will be carried over to the Six Win Bonus and the dividend for a single HK$10 winning unit could reach an estimated HK$10 million.
All betting pools for the Sunday’s race meeting will go on sale from noon on Saturday, 22 March.
