G2 – 3000m – Turf

1

Al Nayyir

Came from off the pace to finish fourth in this last year. Though he never really looked like winning it he came closer to victory in a G2 at Meydan next time. Good staying efforts for this trainer later in 2024 including a runaway Newmarket win. Chance.

2

Gregory

Even though he hasn’t won since landing a Royal Ascot G2 in 2023, he is a high class stayer who might be suited by this debut into G3 handicap company. Gelded since his last start.

3

Continuous

Proved his class – and stamina for nearly this trip – when winning the 2023 G1 St Leger at Doncaster. Only one victory since and disappointed late in 2024. But good chances in this G2 handicap if back near the top of his game.

4

Deira Mile

Campaigned at the top level last year, finishing fourth in two English Classics – the Derby and St Leger. A repeat of those efforts would put him right in contention here especially as he should be happy at this trip.

5

Byzantine Dream

A G3 winner over a much shorter trip in Kyoto early last year. Some decent efforts since – including quite a close fifth at this distance when at long odds in the G1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger).

6

Prydwen

Proved himself as good on turf as on all-weather surface when winning a Killarney handicap under a big weight last August. A moderate effort on his Meydan debut in January but much better in a G3 in January.

7

Presage Nocturne

Evidence from his performances in France last year suggests that this staying trip is fine for him, and he was doing his best work at the end when a close third in a 3100m G3 at ParisLongchamp in September.

8

Trafalgar Square

Having his first start for this Dubai-based stable since leaving France. Looked to be progressing late year and posted a career best when up to this trip to finish a close second in a G2 at ParisLongchamp. An interesting candidate.

9

Epic Poet

Has been in warm form in two staying events at Meydan this year, smoothly winning a conditions’ event and then a close third in a G3. He might have won that had he not had to challenge out wide.

10

Jack Red Cloud

Will need to handle a sharp rise in trip, not having competed beyond 2400m before. Has won four of his 17 starts but was well beaten last time and may struggle again.

11

Year Of The Dragon

Whether he is good enough to handle some international opposition remains to be seen but he did prove himself over this trip when winning here on his last start.
