The Stewards have interviewed Mr K W Lui, trainer of PACKING ANGEL (J454), which is a declared starter in the aforementioned race, regarding the horse’s absence from the training tracks on 25 and 26 January 2025. Mr Lui informed the Stewards that PACKING ANGEL developed an abscess in its left fore foot on 24 January 2025, which resulted in the horse requiring treatment and preventing it from working on the training tracks during the said period.
Mr Lui stated that PACKING ANGEL resumed track work on 27 January 2025, including galloping this morning and he is satisfied with the horse’s fitness ahead of the stated race.
Dr Bronte Forbes, Head of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy, has since examined PACKING ANGEL and at this time passed the horse acceptable to continue training and to present for the routine pre-race veterinary inspection on 30 January 2025.
