G1 – 1400m – Turf
1 |
Poet Master |
An impressive handicap winner in April, proving himself in Group class when a convincing 1400m G2 winner at the Curragh. Needs to return to that level after a less good show last time. |
2 |
Kinross |
This Hong Kong-owned warrior won this in 2022 and ran a close second last year. Quickened stylishly to win a Doncaster G2 last month, showing that he has lost none of his ability. Chance. |
3 |
Tribalist |
Winner of three of his four 2024 starts, latterly with a terrific front-running G1 victory here. Probably best at that 1600m trip, but likely to be sent forward again to exploit his stamina. Major contender. |
4 |
Tiber Flow |
From a stable with a fine record in this. Becoming a specialist at this trip as he showed when grabbing victory late on in a G2 at Newbury. Really tough, he needs respect here. |
5 |
King Gold |
Fifth in this last year when the ground was not as soft as he likes. Had those conditions when landing a 1400m G3 here in June. Well beaten in G1 company twice since. |
6 |
Zerostress |
A 1200m Listed winner at Dortmund in June. Well beaten in a G3 last time, and it would be a giant shock if he won this. |
7 |
Big Rock |
A brilliant performer in 2023, finishing with a 6l winning romp in a 1600m Ascot G1. Nothing like as good this year though encouragement from his third at Woodbine last time. Very soft ground would help. Supplemented. |
8 |
Beauvatier |
Plenty of good efforts, and though unable to match the first two, his G3 third at Deauville in August was very respectable. Has won over 1400m here in the past, but this looks tough for the win money. |
9 |
River Tiber |
From a stable having another outstanding season but River Tiber has not contributed much in two starts since his good third in a 1600m G1 Classic at the Curragh in May. |
10 |
Ocean Jewel |
Running over 1600m recently but won a Leopardstown G3 over this trip last year. Capable of holding her own in top company and was fourth in a 1600m G1 at Deauville last time. |
11 |
Breege |
Supplemented, having delivered a career-best performance last time when coming from last to first for a shock win in a good-to-fast-ground G2 over this trip at York. Handles slow ground also. |
12 |
Matilda Picotte |
Has tremendous gate speed and can burn off her rivals from the front, something she did twice at around this time last year in G3 and G2 company, at this trip. Not so good so far in 2024. |
13 |
Gregarina |
Having her first start for this stable she came from last to win a 1400m G3 at the Curragh in May. Only raced twice since, needing to improve quite a bit to win this. |
14 |
Kelina |
Trying to repeat her shock victory in this last year. Hasn’t lived up to that triumph so far in 2024. The quicker the ground the better for her. |
15 |
Exxtra |
Plenty of likeable performances this year, including when strong at the finish to win a soft-ground G3, one of various good performances over this course and distance. Likely to run well. |
16 |
Flora Of Bermuda |
A 1200m G3 winner at York in July and ran to a similar level with respectable G1 efforts on her last two starts. Up to 1400m for the first time. Not an obvious winner. |
17 |
Ribaltagaia |
A 1600m Listed winner at Chantilly but though putting together some other decent 2024 efforts – including in a G1 – looks an unlikely winner as she drops to 1400m. |
18 |
Ramatuelle |
Has only competed three times in 2024, including her close third in a 1600m G1 Newmarket Classic in May. Last seen when third in a Royal Ascot G1. Chances if at her best. |
