The Hong Kong Jockey Club bought four attractive colts out of Book 1 at the recent 2024 Goffs Orby Sale (1-4 October) at Kildare Paddocks in Ireland for a total outlay of €1.19 million (approx. HK$10.33 million).

The group is represented by a selection of proven sires in Hong Kong, notably Lot 349 – by Starspangledbanner; secured for €300,000. Starspangledbanner’s leading offspring in Hong Kong are Group 1 winners California Spangle and Beauty Eternal as well as recent Group 3 winner Beauty Waves.

Lot 60 is a bay son of Calyx. The Club went to €220,000 for the colt, whose dam Acts Out Loud, is the dam of four winners. A winner at Royal Ascot in 2018, Calyx has sired a pair of Group 1 placegetters.

Lot 269 is by Mehmas – sire of the Group 3-winning Taj Dragon. The bay colt was purchased for €450,000 – the Club’s highest-priced acquisition – and his two half siblings, Starlit Spice and Jonny Concrete, have recently placed and won, respectively.

Dark Angel has had 20 individual winners in Hong Kong. The Club bought Lot 485 by the sire for €220,000, a striking bay colt out of Snowy Peak – dam of three winners.
