G2 – 1300m – Turf
1 |
Johnny Podres |
Gained three consecutive victories here earlier this year. Two fine efforts over 1000m at Del Mar last month suggest that he is still in very good shape. |
2 |
First Peace |
Boasts some strong Santa Anita form at this trip – including a close second in a G3 back in May. Stretched out to 1600m to win at Del Mar in July but ran flat when a disappointing favourite in a G2 there last month. |
3 |
Boss Sully |
Closed down last year with an allowance race victory over this course and distance and returned to action last month when outspeeding his rivals over 1000m at Del Mar. Worth a try up in grade. |
4 |
Two Rivers Over |
Under driving for most of the trip but responded to land a shock win in a 1600m G2 on the dirt at Meydan in March, his last start. He is 0-5 on turf though his dam was effective on grass. |
5 |
King Of Gosford |
Drops back in trip after finishing second over 1700m at Del Mar in August having earlier won over 1300m here. Formerly trained in Ireland, a bit more improvement is required. |
6 |
Air Force Red |
Has enjoyed success over this course and distance, including at G2 level in 2022. Has been racing over further more recently, last time wiring his field in a 1700m allowance race at Del Mar. |
7 |
Eamonn |
His best run this season came when third in an 1100m G2 at Keeneland in April. He is not an easy horse to win with but strong hopes that this course and distance could be just what he needs. |
8 |
Step Forward |
Third though never dangerous in the closing stages in a 1100m G3 on the dirt at Saratoga in August. Disappointed back on turf more recently. Much will depend on how well he handles Santa Anita. |
9 |
Fast Buck |
Very fast from the gates when winning a 1300m G3 here last year. Not beaten far in a G3 over 1000m at Del Mar on latest start. |
10 |
Noble Reflection |
Will need to improve on this year’s efforts but boasts some sharp winning form at Santa Anita in the past, and probably posted a career best when a very close third in this last year. |

Big Invasion |
Looks a fearsome invader from the East where he is a multiple stakes winner and has won nine of his 20 starts. On his previous Santa Anita start he came second – and perhaps unlucky not to win – the 2023 G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. A Saratoga winner last time. Good chance. |
