1000m – Turf

1 Albasheer This experienced speedster came close to victory over this course and distance on his latest start, and he could easily have won that given a cleaner passage in the race.
2 Spangled Mac Possibilities here on some of his best 2023 form, including a fourth of 29 at Royal Ascot and a fast-finishing victory at Newbury. They were over 1400m, but he’s won over 1000m also.
3 Woodhay Wonder Some excellent 2024 performances including two 1200m victories at Newmarket, and a close course and distance fourth of 28 last time. Most effective on a fast surface.
4 Bond Chairman Up with the speed each time, he was fourth in this in 2022 and third last year. However, he had previous seasonal starts each time, now it is his first run after a break of around nine and a half months.
5 Pepsi Cat First career start at Ascot. She won a fast-ground handicap sprint at Newmarket in May and was a good fourth at Ayr since. Tries hard and likes quick ground.
6 Woolhampton Looks to love Ascot’s 1000m with two wins over it, and, though only sixth – not beaten far – here last time.
7 Emperor Spirit No wins from 11 tries on a turf surface does not sound encouraging but did go very close to victory at Haydock last year. Sometimes races too keenly.
8 Existent Having his tenth run in a sprint at this track but yet to make a first three finish in any of them. He did run a good second – finishing fast – at Sandown this month.
9 Two Tribes Sole career win came in a handicap sprint at Sandown last year, and some solid efforts this season since being gelded.
10 Muker All speed, his sixth career win came in a sprint at Redcar in June. But will need to do much better than last time when last of eleven.
11 Brave Nation Plenty of experience over this course and distance including some good efforts, though without winning. He won at Doncaster earlier this month.
12 Harry Brown Yet to win on a turf surface, and his three previous runs at Ascot – though not disastrous – do not offer much hope that he can win this.
13 Call Me Ginger Surged from the rear to win a fast-ground handicap over this course and distance last September. But mostly very well beaten in eight starts since.

1400m – Turf

1 Make Me King Arrives here fresh off a career-best performance when scooting clear of his rivals in the closing stages of a Newcastle handicap last month. But this does look tough off his big weight.
2 Fivethousandtoone His four career wins have come over 1200m and this demanding 1400m might not be ideal. Likely to have finished closer in a Newcastle G3 last time if he had been less keen early on.
3 Orazio Making his debut over 1400m, having finished strongly into third in a red-hot 1200m Royal Ascot handicap in June. Probably happiest on good or slower ground, but he handles quick ground.
4 Northern Express Has a tremendous record at York where he has won three times, and all at this trip. But plenty of good efforts – without a win so far – over this course and distance also.
5 Carrytheone Rallied and squeezed through a gap to grab a narrow victory in a 1400m Newmarket handicap in May.  A player here considering he still looks to be improving, and unlucky last time.
6 Ropey Guest Had 22 runs at Ascot – many over this trip – but without a win so far. Has plenty of talent but it is hard to see him suddenly gain a big-race Ascot success now.
7 Bless Him This veteran missed the break in this last year and could never get into the serious action. But has some good form over the straight course here, including a near miss in May.
8 Metal Merchant Did best of those drawn in single-figure stalls when a very good seventh in a hugely competitive 1600m Royal Ascot handicap. Couldn’t quite get competitive at Sandown last time.
9 Billyjoh Second over this course and distance at Royal Ascot and the winner looks a proper group horse. His only previous Ascot run was another fiery effort and he is interesting.
10 Divine Libra A good effort considering a difficult passage when sixth of 26 in a Royal Ascot handicap.  His best form has come on a good or slower surface.
11 Dancing Magic Tried in top company early in his career but now yet to win in 14 starts, though ran a solid second on fast ground at Chester two starts back.
12 Summerghand Around for an awful long time but this 17-times winner is still capable of some big efforts especially as his handicap mark is much easier than it once was. A solid third on his last two starts.
13 Fresh Won this prestigious handicap on fast ground back in 2022 but didn’t do so well last year on an unfavourable part of the track. A good second here this month.
14 Aalto In terrific form this season, especially last time with his comprehensive defeat of 19 rivals over this trip at Newmarket. He may still be very well handicapped.
15 New Image Looks to be a real improver and may have made it four wins this year if he had not had to been switched to get a run at York last time. A major player.
16 Hickory Hasn’t won any race since 2022, also only having gained one win on a turf surface. But his fourth of 21 here in May was good considering nothing went right for him then.
17 Riot Shouldn’t be ignored as he is a real specialist at this trip, with two 1400m victories this year. Only previous Ascot run was also a really good effort. An interesting outsider.
18 Eminency Didn’t make an impact on his only previous run at this track but has run some decent races in defeat recently. In form Silvestre De Sousa rides him for the first time.
