1000m – Turf
1 | Albasheer | This experienced speedster came close to victory over this course and distance on his latest start, and he could easily have won that given a cleaner passage in the race. |
2 | Spangled Mac | Possibilities here on some of his best 2023 form, including a fourth of 29 at Royal Ascot and a fast-finishing victory at Newbury. They were over 1400m, but he’s won over 1000m also. |
3 | Woodhay Wonder | Some excellent 2024 performances including two 1200m victories at Newmarket, and a close course and distance fourth of 28 last time. Most effective on a fast surface. |
4 | Bond Chairman | Up with the speed each time, he was fourth in this in 2022 and third last year. However, he had previous seasonal starts each time, now it is his first run after a break of around nine and a half months. |
5 | Pepsi Cat | First career start at Ascot. She won a fast-ground handicap sprint at Newmarket in May and was a good fourth at Ayr since. Tries hard and likes quick ground. |
6 | Woolhampton | Looks to love Ascot’s 1000m with two wins over it, and, though only sixth – not beaten far – here last time. |
7 | Emperor Spirit | No wins from 11 tries on a turf surface does not sound encouraging but did go very close to victory at Haydock last year. Sometimes races too keenly. |
8 | Existent | Having his tenth run in a sprint at this track but yet to make a first three finish in any of them. He did run a good second – finishing fast – at Sandown this month. |
9 | Two Tribes | Sole career win came in a handicap sprint at Sandown last year, and some solid efforts this season since being gelded. |
10 | Muker | All speed, his sixth career win came in a sprint at Redcar in June. But will need to do much better than last time when last of eleven. |
11 | Brave Nation | Plenty of experience over this course and distance including some good efforts, though without winning. He won at Doncaster earlier this month. |
12 | Harry Brown | Yet to win on a turf surface, and his three previous runs at Ascot – though not disastrous – do not offer much hope that he can win this. |
13 | Call Me Ginger | Surged from the rear to win a fast-ground handicap over this course and distance last September. But mostly very well beaten in eight starts since. |
