Green With Envy, favourite for the G1 Durban July (2200m) at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday (6 July), showed his class in the official gallops on Tuesday and is the one to beat in the big race.

Green With Envy worked on his own, but that did not stop him from relaxing superbly when asked to - as he does in his races - and then quickening in exceptional fashion in the straight.

He has to carry 123lb but that still puts him on better terms than weight-for-age with the favourite See It Again, who might have won the July last year if the conditions were the same as this year.

Older males had a minimum weight of 117lb last year, which has been changed to 119lb and that gives Green With Envy an advantage over the bottom-weighted, older horses. The one concern is luck in running.

With 18 horses going for home in the 450m straight there can be hard luck stories, especially for those coming from off the pace. Green With Envy’s draw of five might help him get handier than usual but will that blunt his renowned turn of foot?

See It Again has landed the draw Piere Strydom wanted and he should be running on strongly as he did last year. Royal Victory also has an exceptional turn of foot and from pole position can be placed well by the astute Muzi Yeni.

Flag Man is the only one to have tested Green With Envy over ground, but a wide draw could be problematic. Barbaresco looks to have been targeted at this race and on pedigree should relish the trip.

Oriental Charm could be the pacemaker and this progressive three-year-old should stay on well. Winchester Mansion comes off a layoff, but his trainers are bullish about him defending his title.

Purple Pitcher is a courageous front-running sort who will stay the trip. He finds a way to win and is one of the dark horses. Double Superlative has class, but is probably one run short of his best.

Future Swing will gallop resolutely all the way to the line and has the champion jockey elect Richard Fourie. Master Redoute likes to run on through tight gaps and is a dark horse.

Future Pearl should be running on strongly after being dropped out from a wide draw. Aragosta is an honest sort who should be staying on, but he is usually just off the best at this level.

Shoemaker has been a disappointment since promising much as a young three-year-old, but could this be his time to shine? Without Question stayed on well for third in the G1 Met, but he was a major disappointment in last year's July.

Cousin Casey is classy, but a wide draw is against him because he has tended to over race a touch this season, but he is tough to ignore. Son Of Raj stays the trip, but at this level he seems to be just behind the best, although officially he is perfectly weighted.

Meridius has a good turn of foot, but has to prove he stays the trip.

The Garden Province Stakes (1600m) is the second of the Group 1s on Durban July day and sees the renewal of a great rivalry.

Rascova has faced Double Grand Slam in all of her past seven races and has beaten her four times and lost three times.

Last time she beat her in the G2 Fillies Guineas over the 1600m course and distance of the Garden Province, although Double Grand Slam was tightened up against the outside fence in the straight and seemed reluctant to go through the gap.

Double Grand Slam has an exceptional turn of foot but, in three attempts at 1600m, in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas, G1 Majorca Stakes and Fillies Guineas, she has finished unplaced, third and second. On the other hand she has recorded three exceptional victories over 1400m.

Her pedigree also creates slight cause for concern, but the tight Greyville course from a good draw should suit her down to the ground.

Rascova is a front-running sort who settles better the more she races and actually beat Double Grand Slam in all three of the aforementioned races over 1600m. The wide draw will likely see her going to the front.

Silver Sanctuary won the G1 Woolavington 2000 (2000m) and beat both Rascova and Double Grand Slam in her only previous meeting with them and it was over this trip in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas. She has a middle draw of six.

Hold My Hand finished a narrow 0.7 length second to Silver Sanctuary in the Woolavington 2000, despite coming wide into the straight. The last time she ran over as short as a mile was in last year's G2 Fillies Guineas where she finished a one length third.

Mrs Browning has fine recent sprint form, but has won over 1450m before and should get a mile from draw two considering she is out of a Galileo mare.

Happy Chance is held by Double Grand Slam and Rascova on 1400m and 1600m form but a repeat of her close third in the G1 Paddock Stakes(1800m) could see her doing well from pole position.

Bavarian Beauty won a Group 1 over course and distance as a two-year-old, but is held by Double Grand Slam and Humdinger on this season's form.

Red Palace was a good three-quarter length second in the G1 Cape Guineas against the boys and she won her last start in a Listed race over 1800m in fine style, so is a definite contender from draw five.

Asiye Phambili has proven speed and class over 1200m in Graded events, so considering she won three in a row over this trip earlier in her career, she is a fascinating runner.

Humdinger is at her best over 1400m but was just one-and-a-half lengths second in the G1 Empress Club Stakes over this trip, although she has a wide draw.

Celtic Rumours was beaten just three-and-a-quarter-lengths by top colt Sandringham Summit in the G2 Hawaii Stakes (1400m) and should stay the trip, but does have the widest draw of all.
