The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) announced today (1 July) the signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding on the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup” (“MOU”) with the Guangdong Provincial Sports Federation (“GDSF”).
The Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup is a feature race, which has been run on Reunification Raceday every year since the signing of a 10-year MOU between the Club and the GDSF in 2014. It signifies the joint commitment of Guangdong and Hong Kong to promote sports development.
Under the renewed MOU, apart from continuing to co-host the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, the Club plans to stage the cup at Conghua Racecourse as part of the latter’s regular racing programme, which will commence in 2026. This will further promote equine industry development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Executive Director, Racing, Andrew Harding said, “Conghua Racecourse is at the heart of equine industry development in the Greater Bay Area. Through renewing our co-hosting of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, and bringing it to Conghua, we further strengthen sports and cultural exchange between Guangdong and Hong Kong as well as the development of the equine industry.”
The Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province (“GDSB”)’s Deputy Director-General, Lin Ying said, “The Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup has been successfully run in Hong Kong over the past ten years. It is of great importance for promoting and deepening sports and cultural exchanges between Guangdong and Hong Kong. By renewing the MOU, both parties will continue their collaboration in the area of sports and jointly facilitate high-quality development in the Greater Bay Area, reflecting the strengthened exchange and communications between Guangdong and Hong Kong.”
The Club is a longstanding supporter of Guangdong-Hong Kong collaboration in sports, equine industry development and many other areas. Last year, the Club together with GDSB signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on the Joint Promotion of the Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong Sports Industry”, which boosted co-operation in horse sports, equine industry development, sports events, the sports industry, and in other areas.
